Magdalen Simone Schmitz

Magdalen “Maggie” Simone Schmitz, 72, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, April 5, 2020, at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born November 4, 1947, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Cletus and Simone Loumiet Kremer, both deceased.

She was married on June 6, 1970 in Loose Creek, Mo. to Frederick Schmitz who survives at the home.

She was a 1966 graduate of Helias High School and continued her education at Lincoln University. After marrying the love of her life she became a full time homemaker and stay at home mom once her children were born. When her youngest child was in grade school, she began working at St. Peters School as a cook and was employed there for 29 years. She loved her coworkers, students, teachers, and staff. The school cafeteria will not be the same without her smiling, gentle, and loving presence.

To say Magdalen was a talented cook and baker would be an understatement. She loved sharing her gift with those she loved and it was often joked about that her secret ingredient was love. She is famous for her cinnamon rolls and pies, and her family feels that her mission was to “bake the world a better place.” She especially loved passing on her God given talents and secret recipes to her family.

Maggie was a gentle soul with a huge heart. She was beautiful, insightful, playful, and silly. She loved with her whole heart and was the most generous person. She truly cared about everyone and did whatever she could to make their lives just a little bit easier.

Maggie’s biggest joy was her grandchildren. She loved them with every ounce of her being and took great pride in their accomplishments. Her face would light up when she saw them or when people would ask about them. She was their Nana, their biggest fan, their sweetest hug, and their place to find unconditional and absolute love.

Other survivors include two children, Jennifer Hammann, Loose Creek; and John (Tawnya) Schmitz, Henley, Mo; five grandchildren, Nick Hammann, Blake Hammann, Ronnie Jaegers, Romann Jaegers, and Emmalynn Schmitz.

She was preceded in death by one grandchild, Zachary Hammann.

  25. I’m so saddened about the loss of Magdelene, as she and I were elementary school classmates and good friends. I have a favorite photo with Magdelen, when we were about six years old, standing along the Marie’s River under the old Red Bridge during the summer, looking right at the camera. Our fathers were good friends, as they were in WWII together. I remember many days spent playing with Magdelen at her home. Simone and Pete were always so warm and welcoming to Magdelen’s friends. Recently my husband and I moved back to Jeff City from CA, as I had lived there for 45 years and my husband was a native San Franciscan. I had wanted to reconnect with Magdelen. I’m so sorry I didn’t do that sooner. I’m sure Magdelen is at peace and I will always remember her dearly. Condolences to Fred and the family. Karen C. Haslag

  29. My name is Judy Voigt. I was Jennifer and John’s preschool teacher at Faith Lutheran. Magdalen’s SMILE is what I remember most about her. She was also genuine, kind, and gracious. When she would help me at preschool it was a joy. I saw her several months ago and we caught up with our families and she was still the same and so happy to talk about her children and grandchildren. That was a special moment for me now. She loved her family with all her being. Fred, Jennifer, and John you are in my thoughts and prayers. Heaven has an angel now to watch over you.

  30. Fred and Wayne were in the same deacon class. That was when we got acquainted with Magdalen. I always tried to sit next to her because she was so easy to talk to. She was always smiling and happy. We spent a couple of New Year’s eve together playing dominoes and had a wonderful time. Please know that she and her family are in our prayers. She will be missed so much by everyone who knew her. May she rest in peace.

May the Lord’s peace surround you and hold you close. Deacon Paul and Marilee
