Gary Dean Bernskoetter, 56, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2020, at his residence.

He was born December 12, 1963, in Jefferson City, the son of Wilfrid Edward and Betty Jean (Wolters) Bernskoetter.

He was a 1982 graduate of Helias High School.

Gary worked for Gerbes Supermarket, Montgomery Wards, and Smith Paper Supply.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Gary enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals, playing horseshoes, and water sports. Gary’s greatest love was for his son, Dean.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; one son, Dean Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; nine siblings, Ron (Amy) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Cathy (Ray) Thompson, Chapin, SC; Mike (Velma) Bernskoetter, Wardsville; Steven (Linda) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Carol (Rick) Harris, Wardsville; Diana Bernskoetter (Duane Harris), Jefferson City; Greg (Janell) Bernskoetter, Jefferson City; Julie (Rick) Prather, Jefferson City; Sarah (Jacob) Jones, Jefferson City; 18 nieces and nephews; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilfrid Bernskoetter.

Private family services will be held.

  6. Gary was a student of mine back in the seventies at Immaculate Conception. Quiet and reserved but always respectful with a smile on his face, and very easy to talk to. In the years ahead I ran into Gary at Gerbes from time to time, and he was always polite and willing to carry on a conversation. My condolences and prayers for Gary and for his son and siblings. God’s blessings to all.
