Robert Allen “Bob” Robison, 87, of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, October 25, 2018, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City.
He was born on September 9, 1931, in DuQuoin, Illinois, the son of the late Alfred Lee and Jesse Mame (Nehring) Robison Orbin. His family moved to Macon, Missouri in 1935.
Bob served in the United States Navy from 1950-1954 covering the period of the Korean Conflict. He was stationed on the USS Navarro APA 215 as well as on a Naval air station in North Africa. He rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Naval Reserves.
He was united in marriage on August 4, 1956, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Shelbina, Missouri, to Bernadette Cecilia “Bonnie” Buckman who resides at Oak Tree Villas. They were blessed with sixty-two years of marriage together.
A 1950 graduate of Macon High School, Bob received a Bachelor of Science degree in 1961 and a Master’s degree in 1964 in Industrial Education from Northeast Missouri State Teacher’s College (Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO. In 1979, he received a PhD in Education from the University of Missouri.
Bob began his career in education employed as an Industrial Arts teacher in 1961 teaching at Bethel, Shelbyville and Neosho, Missouri. Beginning in 1967, Bob worked for the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). At DESE, he served as Supervisor, then Director of Industrial Education for the state of Missouri for approximately thirty years. He worked approximately four years as Coordinator for Vocational Education, retiring in 2001. Bob was Missouri’s first state advisor of the high school program VICA (Vocational Industrial Club of America), now Skills USA. The project Bob is most proud of while employed with DESE was his instrumental involvement in the establishment of the Missouri’s A+ Schools Program, a program that has helped thousands of Missouri students afford college.
He held professional memberships in several organizations including the American Vocational Association (AVA), serving as Vice President of the Trade and Industrial Education Division. Bob was a board member of the national VICA organization for many years. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri.
Bob was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. He worked on various church committees including serving as Scout Master for the parish’s Troop 6, and the diocese’s Catholic Committee on Scouting.
Bob enjoyed fishing, deer and turkey hunting, camping and traveling with his family. He and Bonnie traveled extensively visiting all fifty U.S. states and several countries. He enthusiastically worked on old cars when he had time. He proudly owned a 1931 Model A Ford coupe and a 1955 Chevy Bel-Air sport coupe. Bob was a member of the Mid-MO Old Car Club, the Mid Missouri Model A Ford Club, the National Model A Restorer’s Club and served as a judge in fine point automotive contests.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; four sons, Robert (Elizabeth) Robison, Jr., Chesterfield, Missouri; James (Kimberly) Robison, Germantown, Tennessee; Donald (Jana) Robison, Wildwood, Missouri; Ronald (Amy) Robison, LaGrange, Kentucky; eleven grandchildren, Abigail Robison, Suzanne (Steven) Boerrigter, Diane Robison, Caroline Robison, Kyle Robison, Carly (Adam) Antor, Megan Robison, Paige Robison, Haley Robison, Emily (Austin) Echsner, Sean Robison; and one brother, Carol “Robbie” (Sharon) Robison.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Donald J. Antweiler officiating.
Burial with military honors will be 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2018, in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Shelbina, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1206 E. McCarty St., Jefferson City, MO 65109; Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or to a charity of the donor's choice.

When I worked at IC church, Bob and Bonnie were always so sweet to me. Sometimes after an early Friday morning Mass their group would end up at McDonalds, and they always invited me to share their company. Bob’s generosity to teach the priests from out of the country to drive was so great, and he never failed to accomplish.
I’d like to express my deepest condolences to the Robison family. Wishing you peace and comfort in the days ahead. I have memory of Bob that I’ve held with me for many years… he gave me a compliment while helping Don work on a car and it made me feel very special… something I’ve not forgotten in decades. One of my favorite memories was a trip to the Turk Caicos Islands with Robert, Bonnie, Robbie, Sharon, and my husband Dan and me. We laughed, went on some adventures, checked out the beach, and ate wonderful food. Your smile was contagious and so was your love for family. Go rest in the arms of our Savior, your job is done. Jim and I are not able to attend Robert’s funeral. We both are so happy that we were able to attend Robert and Bonnie’s 50 and 60 Wedding Anniversary celebrations and meet their wonderful family. We treasure that memory. Also, Jim, just recently had a conversation with Robert when hurricane Harvey hit North Carolina. Jim was seeking information concerning Robbie and Sharon’s safety, as well as their children’s safety during that storm. Jim was so happy that he had that conversation and was able to catch up on Robert’s family. Our sympathy to all of you and may our loving Savior be your strength and peace in the days ahead.
