Barbara Jean Register, 71, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018, at Capital Region Medical Center.
She was born December 16, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Henry and Leona Letha (Bennett) Sharp.
Barbara graduated from Jefferson City High School in 1964.
She was united in marriage on February 9, 1963, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City to Marvin Olin Register who survives at the home.
Barbara worked for the State of Missouri Department of Revenue as a clerk, Missouri Automobile Dealers Association, and for Blue Cross Blue Shield as a claims adjustor for 19 years, retiring in 2009.
Barbara was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; Preceptor Theta, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and the St. Peter Catholic Home and School where she was the mission party chair.
Marvin and Barbara started the Compassionate Friends group in Jefferson City in 1981.
She enjoyed playing any kind of game whether it be board games, travel games or games on her computer and she was an avid reader. She had a loving heart for all people and nothing gave her more pleasure than seeing people happy including her close friends. Some of her happiest days were spent with Marvin during his campaigns. Barbara loved being with her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin Register, Jefferson City; two children, Charles Chuck (Susie) Register, Jefferson City; Rick (Melissa) Register, Columbia; four grandchildren, Alex Register, Lauren Register, Andre Lising, Olin Register; her father, Charles Sharp, Elsworth, KS; and one sister, Lorie (Dan) Taylor, Wilson, KS.
She was preceded in death by one son, Scott Register; her mother, Leona Sharp; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Carol Register.
Visitation will be 9-11:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at St. Peter Catholic Church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018. at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Chris Cordes and the Rev. Mike Coleman concelebrating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.

Such a lovely lady. I met Barbara and Marvin thru mutual friends, Buck and Angie Russler years ago. Each time I ran into her, I was met with a smile and a hug. Her personally was infectious. My condolences to Marvin and the family. She is a beautiful angel watching over all of you with a glowing smile.
Marvin and family you have my deepest sympathy. Barbara was a special person who went to High School with me and traveled with me to march at Kennedy’s inauguration. Marvin and Barbra dated at the same time my husband David and I did. My you be reminded of all the friends lives she touched.

Sincere sympathies to the Register family. Good friends with Rick when we were growing up and did a lot of stuff together. Barb was always so nice (as was Marvin) to me and all the other guys when we would hang out at the Register’s place. Lots of great memories from the friendship and sports stuff.
