Alvena Joy Smith, 96, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, September 10, 2017 at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born in Mason City, Illinois on June 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Wilbur and Elsie Mae (Woods) Marshall, Sr. On June 12, 1953, Alvena was married to George Logan Smith in Decatur, Illinois He passed away October 15, 1991. Alvena was a piece worker at Grigoliets in Decatur, Illinois and later became a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jefferson City and the Decatur TOPS. Alvena enjoyed sewing, playing cards, bingo and she loved cookies and Central Dairy ice cream. Alvena is survived by her two daughters, Carolyn (Stanley) Paczkowski, and Johnette Woolley, both of Jefferson City, Missouri; 8 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and one brother, John Reuben Marshall, San Jose, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, George Robert Smith; one infant daughter, Linda Joy Shelly; a great-grandson, Randy Chugg; two brothers Melvin Earl Marshall and Wilbur Francis Marshall, Jr.; one sister, Mildred Goodpasture; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Marshall and Helen Marshall; one brother-in-law, Lloyd Goodpasture; two nephews, Leon Goodpasture and Larry Marshall; and one niece, Wilma Mae Marshall. Visitation will be 11-12:00 noon, Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes in Decatur, Illinois. Funeral services will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Brintlinger and Earl Funeral Homes in Decatur, Illinois. Burial will be in Illini Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donors choice or SSM Hospice St. Marys of Jefferson City, 2505 Mission Dr., Jefferson City, MO 65109.
