Richard Lawrence Carel, Sr., 85, of Jefferson City, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at St. Mary's Health Center.
He was born on August 5, 1931, in St. Martins, Mo., the son of the late Charles Amos and Hilda Dulle Carel.
He was married on March 21, 1953, in Jefferson City, to Barbara Lee Fisher who survives at the home.
Mr. Carel was employed with MFA Oil Company for many years, retiring in 1993.
A U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church; VFW Post 5; and enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and special times with his family and grandchildren.
Other survivors include six children, Diane (John) Stevens, Jefferson City; Richard (Debbie) Carel, Jr., Holts Summit, Mo.; Debbie (Rick) Ponder, Jefferson City; Sharon (Andy) Lage, Mary's Home, Mo.; Karen (Jim) Lute, Jefferson City; and Wanda (Chip) Isenberg, Henley, Mo.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren on the way; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Carel, St. Martins; and Anne Carel, Springfield, Ill.
He was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Cohen Isenberg; five brothers, Raymond, Bernard, Joseph, Kenneth, and Vincent Carel; and two sisters, Dorine Heimericks and Helen Steck.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 17, 2017, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Simeon A. Etonu officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, March 16th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
