Robert Lee McCarty, 78, of Jefferson City, passed away Monday, August 10, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born June 29, 1937, in Columbia, MO, the son of the late Harold Lee and Emma M. (Barnes) McCarty. He was a 1955 graduate of Mexico High School in Mexico, Missouri and a 1959 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Robert served with the Missouri National Guard for 6 years. He was united in marriage on June 28, 1959, in Hatton, MO, to Mary Lou Femmer who survives at the home. Robert worked as a contract specialist for the United States Department of Agriculture, Soil Conservation Service for 32 years retiring January 3, 1995. He also had worked for the United States Postal Service and the United States Geological Survey. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Jefferson City where he participated in mission projects and mission trips and also served as a Volunteer In Corrections with the prison ministry project. In addition to his wife, Mary Lou of 56 years, he is survived by two sons, Ray (Jeanna) McCarty, Jefferson City; Philip McCarty, Columbia; two grandchildren, Jason McCarty, Jefferson City; Candice (Matt) McCarty Allen, Wardsville; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Jo Ann Williams, Columbia. He was preceded in death by his parents. Visitation will be 9:30-10 a.m. Saturday at Bible Baptist Church in Jefferson City. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 2015, at Bible Baptist Church, with Pastor Randy Dignan officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Elmwood Cemetery in Mexico, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Bible Baptist Church Missionary Fund, 4730 Country Club Drive, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
