Raymond Herman "Bud" Carel, 92, of St. Martins, passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015, surrounded by his family.
He was born February 21, 1923, in Jefferson City the son of the late Charles Amos and Hilda (Dulle) Carel.
Bud was a graduate of Centertown High School.
He served his country with the United States Army in the 752nd Tank Battalion in Po Valley, Italy during World War II.
He was united in marriage on November 8, 1949, at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martins to Jean Elizabeth "Betty" Brondel who survives.
Bud worked for Jefferson City Autobody & Frame as an auto body repairman for 37 years.
He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church and enjoyed barbecuing, gardening, working in his auto body workshop, helping coach baseball, was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 65 years, he is survived by seven children, Shirley (Larry) Schwarzer, Centertown; Donnie (Dorothy) Carel, St. Martins; Nancy (Rick) Hart, Russellville; Doug (Julie) Carel, Jefferson City; Keith (Janet) Carel, St. Martins; Terry (Sue) Carel, Centertown; Mike (Cara) Carel, Russellville; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way; and two siblings, Sue Heimericks, Jefferson City; and Richard (Barbara) Carel, Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Thomas Carel and James Carel; a grandson, Zachary Carel; a sister, Helen Steck; and four brothers, Bernard Carel, Vincent Carel, Joseph Carel, and Ken Carel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 7, 2015, at St. Martin Catholic Church in St. Martins with the Rev. Edwin A. Schmidt officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St Martin Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday at St. Martin Catholic Church with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
