Terry Robert Turpin, 62, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, May 31, 2014, at his daughter's home in California, Missouri. He was born July 19, 1951, in Henley, Missouri, the son of Wilson "Turp" James and Dorothy Irene (Miller) Turpin. Terry spent over 50 years as a mechanic and a partner with Turp's Garage in Jefferson City. Terry loved spending time with his family and friends, and especially his grandchildren. He raced the "-0" car at Double-X Speedway, Capital Speedway, and numerous other Mid-Missouri dirt tracks. He enjoyed helping work on his daughter and son's race cars, was an avid NASCAR fan, and loved Chevys. He also enjoyed gardening, watching Westerns with the grandchildren, was a master of bar-b-que, and participated in many bar-b-que contests. Terry could envision ideas in his mind and make them come to life using his hands. He was an amazing mechanic and had a computer-like memory. Survivors include: his mother, Dorothy Turpin, Jefferson City; six children, Melissa (Scott) Copeland, Tomball, TX; Tara (Jim) Hudson, California; Leslie Turpin, California; Curt Turpin, Jefferson City; Crystal Turpin, Columbia; Courtney Turpin, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, David Walker; Blain Borgmann; Hayden Turpin; and six siblings, Gary (Donna) Turpin, Jefferson City; Jim Turpin, Jefferson City; Rhonda (Doug) Lauf, Henley; Wilson "Paul" Turpin, Wardsville; Dana (Casey) Mans, Eugene; and Wanda Clevenger, New Bloomfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson "Turp" Turpin; a granddaughter, Riley Michelle Hudson; three sisters, Sherry Turpin, Deanna Turpin, Joann Kelsey; and a brother, John Turpin. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with Pastor Shay Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Brazito. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice.
