Jerome Vincent Kliethermes, 80, of Westphalia, Mo., died Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at the Missouri Veterans Home in St. James, Mo.
He was born on May 11, 1931, in Linn, Mo., the son of the late Joseph H. and Veronica Schmitz Kliethermes. He was married on January 7, 1956, in Linn, Mo., to Dorothy Alma Reinkemeyer who survives at home.
A 1949 graduate of Linn High School, Mr. Kliethermes retired in 1996 as a postal clerk with the United States Postal Service. He had previously served as a diesel engineer on a river barge and as diesel mechanic at the Missouri State Penitentiary Power Plant.
He was a United States Army veteran.
A member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, Jerry greatly enjoyed the MU Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals, and fishing.
Other survivors include four children, Gregory (Barbara) Kliethermes, Taos, Mo.; John Kliethermes, Westphalia; David (Laura) Kliethermes, Jefferson City; and Susan (Jay) Bond, Jefferson City; nine grandchildren, Angie Brooks, Jamie Kliethermes, Emily Kliethermes, Deandra Lowell, Jeremy Voss, Kelsey Bond, Riley Bond, Bryce Bond, and Joe Kliethermes; and four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Katie, Noah, and Baby Brooks.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Elston Kliethermes and Bob Kliethermes; by a brother-in-law, Jim Weber; and two sister-in-laws, Freda Weber and Anna Mae Kliethermes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, September 16, 2011, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Mark A. Smith officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, September 15th, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m.
