Donald Eugene “Donnie” Shiverdecker, 65, of New Bloomfield, passed away Monday, November 11, 2024.
He was born January 1, 1959, in Fulton, Missouri, the son of Gene and Darlene (Danner) Shiverdecker.
He was a 1977 graduate of Fulton High School. During High School, he also attended Mexico VoTech Mechanics Class.
On April 25, 2003, in Taos, Missouri, Donnie married Cindy Knaebel, who lives at their home in New Bloomfield.
Donnie began working at the age of 16, frying chicken at KFC. He was later employed at Gasper’s Truck Stop, where he learned about tires through his work there. Donnie spent most of his years with Rental Equipment and Service, where he worked as a mechanic and truck driver. Donnie believed in a strong work ethic: showing up early, staying late, and doing the job right the first time. He was never without a job, until serious injuries forced him to quit his career in 2008. His passion for motors and mechanics has influenced many to follow in his footsteps.
Donnie was a car enthusiast. His favorite time of year was Car-Show season. He attended car shows, big and small, all-around mid-Missouri and some farther away. He was very proud to be named ‘Best in Show’ this past May at the Magic Dragon Car Show at the Lake of the Ozarks for his 1970 GTX.
Donnie enjoyed working on tractors, and restored his father-in-law’s 1939 Farmall, bringing joy to the Knaebel boys. Because of his hard work, this tractor has been handed down to the next generations.
He continued his Dad’s teachings of how to grill, and became known and loved for his BBQ’d ribs. This passion led him to building his own rotisserie pit so he could cook 12 slabs at a time for family and friends.
Donnie loved taking things apart just to see how they worked. Most of the time, he put it back together. He could make anything run, but just give him 30 minutes. Donnie would drop anything he was doing to help anyone in need. He did this without expecting or asking for anything in return.
For his birthday this past year, Cindy bought him an Indian Chief Trike. Even though he didn’t have much time with it, he did enjoy his peaceful rides, and especially the rides with his buddy, Ron Miller.
In recent years, Donnie went above and beyond spending time with his parents, taking them to appointments and enjoying time together at the Casino.
Nothing was more important to him than family and friends.
If you had the privilege of knowing Donnie, you were blessed.
Survivors include his wife, Cindy Shiverdecker, New Bloomfield; two daughters, Jacqueline Shiverdecker, Leavenworth, KS; Susan Shiverdecker, Jefferson City; his mother, Darlene Shiverdecker, Fulton; four grandchildren: Delanie, Cameron, Rebecca, and Estrella; one sister, Debbie Deline, Fulton; a nephew, Tony (Amanda) Crocker; a niece, Angela Kidwell; great-niece, Nikki Crocker; and many dear friends.
