Cynthia Lynn “Cindi” (Heisler) Doerhoff, 71, of Lohman, MO passed away at her home on May 3, 2025, surrounded by her husband and children.
Born on August 18, 1953, in Jefferson City, MO to August and the late Alice (Radmacher) Heisler, she was the second of four children.
As a young girl she lived in Meta, MO before her family moved to Linn, MO. After graduating from Linn High School in 1971, she attended the University of Missouri – Columbia and earned a B.S. in Early Childhood Education in 1975 and her M.S. in Counseling & Personal Services in 1979. At Mizzou she was a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority, where she met some of her dearest and lifelong friends. They made a point to get together at least once a year, traveling to an island for a milestone birthday, tailgating at a Mizzou football game or meeting up for a spa day.
She met Carl, the love of her life, while at college, and they were united in marriage on June 21, 1975, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Jefferson City, MO. They moved to Columbia, South Carolina for a few years before returning to central Missouri to raise their family.
She enjoyed working with students in her field of education, first as a kindergarten teacher in Hallsville, MO, then as a counselor at St. Joseph Cathedral School, and eventually at the front office of Helias High School in Jefferson City, MO.
Cindi was a devoted parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, MO for over 40 years. She was very service-oriented and would do anything, for anyone, at any time. She frequently and freely donated her time, talent, and treasure to others, especially to those most in need. She enjoyed volunteering and being civically involved, helping with Meals on Wheels, numerous local elections, and countless other local opportunities and requests. She was a member of P.E.O. International, Chapter MQ, for 19 years. Cindi never shied away from work, and if she took a job she put her heart and soul into it. She enjoyed her time with her PEO sisters, whether it was hosting the annual Christmas party where she served her “special” Christmas drink or trying to get her sisters to accompany her to a goat yoga class. She always brought a smile to their faces, but above all else they all knew who and what was most important to her, and that was her family. Her quiet strength and integrity were well admired and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She loved cheering on the Mizzou Tigers at football and basketball games, and was even more devoted to any sport or activity her kids or grandkids were involved in. She enjoyed Oldies and Motown music, landscape gardening, spending time at Lake of the Ozarks, and traveling with Carl. But her greatest joy in life was spending time with her own family. She was a great organizer and planner and had activities ready for the family at any time. A planned craft for the grandkids would often turn into decorating her house for the holidays. She was endlessly patient, with a gift for turning a simple thing into something fun, the every day into something memorable and magical, and she had a natural ability to connect and make you feel special. Cindi loved deeply and selflessly, without condition or expectation. She left us with countless examples of how to live well with courage, joy, humility, and faith and how to love each other fully. She leaves behind a true legacy of love.
Cindi is survived by her husband Carl R. Doerhoff, M.D.; son Adam J. (Robbie) Doerhoff of Hallsville, MO; daughter Danielle R. Doerhoff (Harrison) Hill, J.D. of Prairie Village, KS; daughter Gabrielle L. Doerhoff (Greg) O’Hagan of Overland Park, KS; and eight grandchildren: Jon Carl Doerhoff, Orin Doerhoff, Bryn Cook, Hayes Hill, Evelyn Hill, Henry O’Hagan, Cecilia O’Hagan, and Charlotte O’Hagan; father, August Frank Heisler; sister, Gretchen (Robert) Lathrop; sister, Valerie (David) Rapoff; brother, Kurt (Carla) Heisler. She was preceded in death by her mother, Alice Mae Heisler, in 2016.
Visitation will be held from 9:30am – 12:00pm, with Mass of Christian Burial immediately following at 12:00pm on Friday, May 9, 2025, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City, MO with Fr. Matthew Flatley officiating and Fr. Mike Coleman concelebrating. Private family interment will be held at St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in St. Elizabeth, MO following the Mass.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, memorials are encouraged to Operation Bugle Boy – an organization that provides local patriotic service projects that honor United States military veterans in the Jefferson City area. Cindi’s 98 year old father, who is one of the very few World War II veterans left in the area, has been a recipient of the group’s outreach. Contributions can be sent to Operation Bugle Boy at 12003 County Rd 4040, Holts Summit, MO 65043.
