Mary Della Flanigan, 81, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at River City Living Community surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 8, 1944, in Excelsior Springs, Missouri to Joseph H. and Elizabeth (Ryan) Cox.

Mary was a 1962 graduate of Excelsior Springs High School.

She was married on September 5, 1964, in Excelsior Springs to Charles Donald Flanigan who resides at the home.

She was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Mary worked for many years as a sales associate at Sears and being a homemaker raising her family.

She enjoyed crafting, baking, and reading novels.  Many days she would bake treats and deliver them to the fire station for the firefighters to enjoy.  She and her friends formed a book club circle to share each other’s favorite books.  Mary loved animals and had a special dog, Maggie, that she loved.

Survivors include her husband, Charles; four children, Regina (Matt) Connor, Lake Prior, Minnesota; Joseph Flanigan, Jefferson City; Jennifer (Mike) Strong, Jefferson City; and Becky (Chris) Mathews, Jefferson City; six grandchildren, Kyle Straub, Sabrina (Josh) Pitt, Logan Mathews, Jolene Flanigan, Lauren Mathews, and Allison Connor; and two step granddaughters, Malerie Strong and Megan Strong.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Jim Cox, Tom Cox, and Joe Ed Cox; and two sisters, Cecelia Williams, and Josephine Clevenger.

Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Friday, May 16, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes, with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Rev. Stephen W. Jones officiating.

Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.
