Joseph Leon Crowe, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at Jefferson City Manor Care Center.
He was born December 25, 1949, in Pittsburg, Kansas, the son of Henry Ross and Edna Pearl (Smith) Crowe. In 2002, Joseph received his Bachelor of Science degree from Columbia College.
He was united in marriage on August 15, 1987, at Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City to Margie Ann Wallis who preceded him in death on July 31, 2024.
Joseph served for many years with the Missouri National Guard. At the time of his retirement, he had earned the rank of Sergeant Major. Joseph also worked for the Missouri Department of Corrections as a food service manager at the Tipton Center and Algoa Center. Joseph enjoyed both careers as they were in service to the people of Missouri.
He was a member of Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City where he volunteered in several church programs and was a member of the Roscoe Enloe Post 5 American Legion for 27 years. During his time with the American Legion, Joseph volunteered with the cooking crew and help to raise money that was used for various charities of the post which included nursing scholarships and Boys & Girls State scholarships.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Joseph and his wife, Margie, also enjoyed the outdoors by volunteering with the Missouri State Parks as campground hosts for many years. He wanted to ensure the maintenance of the parks was upheld for his grandchildren and their children.
Survivors include three step-sons, Derek (Rebecca) Volkart, Talent, OR; Jason (Amy) Volkart, Jefferson City; Mitchell (Misty) Volkart, Hartsburg; and eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren, Kyle, Eden, Alexandra, Julia, Cedar, July, Malerie, and Megan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Margie Crowe; two sons, Shawn Crowe and Jamie Crowe; a sister, Janie Dickey; and a brother, Mike Crowe.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 10-11 a.m. at Concord Baptist Church. A service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. John King and Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating.
Burial will be held at Spring Garden Cemetery in Eugene, Missouri.
Memorials are suggested to Concord Baptist Church Children’s Ministry.
