John Joseph “Jonny” Chouinard, Sr., 79, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at his residence.

He was born January 4, 1946, in Dallas, Texas, the son of Lionel and Mary (Karr) Chouinard.

Jonny joined the United States military at the age of 17.  He proudly served in the Navy for several years including being stationed on the USS Hornet, Shangri-La, Midway, and Coral Sea.

On September 30, 1967, in Alameda, California, he married Mary Josephine Elizabeth Chladek who preceded him in death on March 17, 2015.

Jonny worked for many years as a welder, fabricator, and shop foreman for Dailey Body Company and Bee Seen Signs.  He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, NASCAR and Dale Earnhardt, and loved to tinker with any odd job around the shop.  Jonny had an automotive prowess especially when it came to Chevy’s.  He also found great joy in raising pigeons for homing, racing, and for show.

Survivors include three children, John (Tracy) Chouinard, Jr., Jefferson City; James Chouinard, Jefferson City; Jolene (Brian) Mushrush, Jefferson City; seven grandchildren, Devin Chouinard, Kelsey Chouinard, Ayden Chouinard, Jace Chouinard, Cash Chouinard, Jordan Mushrush, Colby Mushrush; and two siblings, Pam (Dan) Parker, Itasca, TX; and Shirley (Dale) Conner, Hillsboro, TX.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two sisters, Ellen Chouinard and Rosemary Chandler; and a brother, Jerry Chouinard.

Visitation will be 1-3 p.m. Sunday, June 8, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City.  A graveside service with military honors will follow at St. Martin Catholic Cemetery with Deacon Steve Kliethermes officiating.

Memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church or to Central Missouri Honor Flight.
