Maxine Josephine Walker, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away on July 9, 2025, at Heisinger Bluffs. Senior Living Community.

She was born on October 27, 1938, in Chamois, Missouri, to Fred George and Lidia Thedora (Giesing) Walker.

She graduated from Chamois High School and Capitol Business College.

Maxine was a long-time employee of the Missouri Division of Employment Security until her retirement in 2000.

Maxine was well-liked by her many friends and relatives. She never said unkind words about anyone and took an interest in what others were doing.

She was a fun, engaged aunt to her nieces. When her nieces were young, she took them hiking around Chamois and ice skating in Jefferson City. She also made washing her car seem like a fun thing to do in Chamois!

In later years, Maxine traveled to many places: Ireland and Alaska (two of her favorite places), as well as Israel, the Panama Canal, Costa Rica and other destinations like Utah, Colorado, and Pella, Iowa.

She frequently attended theater and musical shows in St. Louis along with sports events like MU women’s volleyball and basketball. She held season tickets for Capital City Productions and rarely missed any high school theater productions. She regularly attended concerts, wrestling, football games and other activities of her great nieces and nephews. And she always enjoyed playing cards and board games with her numerous relatives, especially if she won!

Maxine had many interests with photography being her chief hobby for years and years. At different times in her life, she also enjoyed cake decorating, painting, stained-glass, and candle-making. Her dogs, too, were her cherished companions and she took them to be displayed at Living Windows at Christmas, dog shows, and other events.

Maxine volunteered at the Special Learning Center, Villa Marie, and the Heisinger Bluffs Gift Shop. She also participated in rosary groups, perpetual adoration, and DeColores retreats at St. Joseph’s Cathedral Parish where she was a lifelong member.

In addition, she was active in the Jefferson City Kennel Club, the Capital Garden Club, River City Red Hatters, River Bluffs Audubon, and Learning in Retirement. Maxine always had an intense interest in learning something new. She was also adept, even in the last couple of years, at using her phone for texting, Facebook, and doing jigsaw landscape puzzles.

Maxine is survived by three nieces, Celeste (Rich) Koon of Jefferson City, Diane Day of Mountlake Terrace, WA, and Nan (Mark) Westhoff of Cartage, MO. She is also survived by 22 nieces and nephews from various generations, plus many cousins and friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Rosanna (William) Day, and her young brother Fred Walker, Jr.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Vitae Society or St. Joseph Cathedral Foundation.

Visitation will be 12:30-2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2025, at the Cathedral of St. Jospeh with the Rev. Msgr. Robert Kurwicki, Diocesan Administrator officiating.

Burial will be in the Most Pure Heart of Mary Cemetery in Chamois, Missouri.
