Socorro Carbajal de Gonzalez, 80, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, September 21, 2025, at her residence surrounded by her family.

She was born September 3, 1945, in Canadas de Obregon, Mexico, the daughter of Lino Carbajal and Maria Ponce Carbajal.

She was united in marriage in her hometown in Mexico to Guadalupe Gonzalez who preceded her in death on October 26, 2011.

Socorro was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.  She and her husband owned and operated a grocery market in Mexico for many years.  A devout Catholic, with true devotion to Mary and praying the rosary were a daily part of her life.  She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, and had a funny sense of humor.  Family was a cornerstone of her life; she loved her family immensely.

Survivors include two daughters, Ana (Richard) Matanane, Jefferson City; Nancy (Hugo) Mathey, Anchorage, Alaska; eleven grandchildren; Maria Fernanda Perez, Sofia G. Perez, Jonathan E. Perez, Lourdes M. Matanane, Ana Teresa Matanane, Joseph, P. Matanane, Carlos G. Matanane, Lourdes B. Mathey, Ettienne D. Mathey, Rocco Mathey and Liam J. Mathey; and five siblings, Jesus Carbajal, Cuca Ruezga, Emma Diaz, Esperanza Alvarez, and Martha Gallo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Calletana Casillas, Eloisa Chavez; and two brothers, Salvador Carbajal and Raul Carbajal.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2025, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City, with a rosary recited at 6:30 p.m.

A Requiem Mass will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia.  The Rosary will start before Mass at 9:30 a.m. The Rev. Dylan Schrader will celebrate Mass.  Communion will be distributed at the kneeler.

Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery.  Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at Colton’s Restaurant in Jefferson City.

While at the church, the family encourages everyone to dress using the following guidelines: for women – dresses and skirts should be long enough that the knees are covered when sitting, shoulders should be covered, necklines should not be revealing, clothing should not be too tight, clothing is to conceal not reveal, shorts are not suitable wear, and veils are encouraged to be worn for women; for men – dark clothing with preference for suits and collared shirts (ties optional), tee shirts and shorts as well as flip flops are not suitable wear.
