Elizabeth Ann Marty-Epperson

Elizabeth Ann Marty-Epperson, 44, of Jefferson City, affectionately known as Liz, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, after a brave fight against cancer. She was at her home and surrounded by family when she passed.

She was born on June 13, 1981, in Columbia, Missouri, the daughter of David Richard Marty and Lynn Arras Marty.

Liz graduated from Helias High School in 1999 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science from St. Louis University. She found her calling in occupational therapy, a field where she excelled, being at the top of her class.

Liz devoted her career to helping children and adults alike, first with nearly a decade as a pediatric in-home occupational therapist in Colorado Springs. After returning to Missouri to be closer to her family, she worked as an in-patient occupational therapist for MU Capital Region Medical Center. In the words of one of her colleagues: “She changed lives at Capital Region with her kind and gentle ways, as well as her knowledge and skills.”

Active in her faith, Liz was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Her life was a testament to service, both in her professional field and in her personal pursuits. Liz was an exceptional cook, a music enthusiast who enjoyed playing the piano, a rescuer of many shelter dogs over the years, and a lover of the outdoors. An avid hiker, she cherished her time in the Colorado mountains.

Liz’s athletic spirit was evident from her youth. She played tennis in high school, competed on the Helias track and field team, and had a passion for riding and showing both Western and English horses. She brought enthusiasm and excellence to every activity she undertook.

She leaves behind her mother and father, Lynn Arras Marty and David Richard Marty, her two brothers, David Christopher Marty and Eric Stephen Marty, as well as Eric’s wife Megan and their two children. Finally, she leaves behind, with special sadness, her beloved son, Samuel Jonathan Epperson, who was her light and inspiration throughout the last seventeen years. She asked that everyone who knew her look out for Sam and help him along his path in life in whatever way they can. Her legacy of love and service and laughter will live on in him.

Liz will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.

A brief public visitation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on the same day at 11 a.m., also at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Matthew Flatley officiating. A private burial will be held at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in honor of Liz’s life can be made to the Special Learning Center of Jefferson City, the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, or the Immaculate Conception Capital Campaign.

  5. Dear David and Lynn,
I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your daughter, Elizabeth. There are no words to fully describe what you are going through. I know this because I lost my son Daniel in 2010. The grief and pain will gradually, over much time, lessen, but the sense of loss never does. My heart aches for you. Both of you had a connection to Daniel. Dr. Marty, you performed two sinus surgeries on him, once when he was in high school and another time when he was a college student. One of his best friends was Brady G., and Daniel spent time at your home when you lived in Wardsville. Lynn, you were a nurse practitioner for Dr. Girard Moline. He was Daniel’s primary care physician, and I know that Daniel also saw you several times over the years. Just as my son is ever-present in my heart and in my memories, so will Elizabeth be for you. And you will both be in my heart.

  6. Sending love to the family from Colorado. Liz was one of the first people I met when I moved out here and began mentorship under her and eventually having her as my supervisor in pediatric therapy. Her calm and gentle spirit will be missed.

  7. Dearest Lynn, I am so very sorry to see this notice. I didn’t realize your daughter had relocated back to Jefferson City, but I am certain you treasured your recent time with her. My thoughts are with you!
