John P. Schulz
October 12, 1951 ~ February 5, 2026
John Schulz, 74, of Taos passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, February 5, 2026.
He was born October 12, 1951 in Jefferson City to the late Paul and Theodora (Jaegers) Schulz. Growing up on the family farm in Folk, John learned the value of hard work and how to become a “jack of all trades”. He graduated from Fatima High School in Westphalia and then attended Linn Tech where he became skilled in automotive mechanics. John was drafted into the Vietnam War serving in the United States Marine Corps and later served in the National Guard. On October 6, 1973, John married Edna Eichholz at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos. For over 30 years, he worked for the Missouri Department of Conservation overseeing the Vehicle Maintenance Shop.
Faith, family, and friends were at the center of his life. John was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and over the years was involved in many different parish activities. Friends and neighbors could always depend on John whenever they had a car issue. Whether it was woodworking, welding, or working under the hood of a car, John was “Mr. Fix It” and loved teaching those skills. In his earlier years, you could find John on a boat fishing with family, farming, or tending to his vegetable garden making sure to give potatoes to the Carmelite Sisters. He also traveled with family attending various NASCAR races around the country. John and Edna always looked forward to their many trips to California to visit the kids and grandkids.
Survivors include his wife, Edna of Taos; daughter, Michelle (Joseph Howell) Schulz of Taos; son, Chris (Linda) Schulz of Huntington Beach, CA; two granddaughters, Stevie and Zoey Howell; brother, Gerald (Nguyen Nguyen) Schulz of Houston, TX and sister, Connie Gerling of Blackwater, MO. John was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, David and brothers-in-law, Robert Gerling and Cletus Haslag.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Taos.
