Kathleen Hope Henderson

Kathleen Hope Henderson, 85, of Jefferson City passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2026 at River City Living Community.

She was born February 17, 1941 in Lenoir, North Carolina to the late Elmer and Mossie (Crisp) Nelson.  After graduating from high school, Kathy continued her education through Correspondence School in Gainsville, FL.  Kathy has two daughters, Hope and Amy with her first husband, Nelson Moad. On September 17, 1994 Kathy married John Henderson in Holts Summit.  He preceded her in death in 2025. 

For over twenty-five years, Kathy worked in various nursing homes in Jefferson City and Ashland.  She was a cook and later became a dietary supervisor.  Kathy was devout member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Hartsburg and New Salem Baptist Church, Ashland.  In her younger years, she had a passion for writing short stories and songs.  Kathy enjoyed reading and loved making the best fried chicken and dumplings for her family. 

Survivors include her two daughters; Hope Lynn Skaggs of Holts Summit, Amy Marie (David) Johnson of Ashland; three grandchildren, Stephanie Howard, Jeffery Skaggs, Alexander Johnson; three great grandchildren, Paisley, Weston and Boone Howard.  Kathy was further preceded in death by her son-in-law, Kenneth Skaggs; four brothers, Stanley, Johnny, Gary and Eddie Nelson; three sisters, Laura “Irene” Church, Pauline Borman and Christine Fuggrio. 

Private family services will be held at a later date.
