Mary Lee Steele Williams, 75, of Chesapeake, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home on July 5, 2026.

She was born in Richland, Washington, on January 21, 1951, to Danton Gibbs Steele and Blanche Marian (Wynhoff) Steele. They moved to the family farm in Steele, MO, in 1952, and in 1955 moved to Jefferson City, MO, where Mary Lee graduated from J.C. Senior High School in 1969.

Mary Lee was a KU Medical Center graduate of the School of Nuclear Medicine, having been one of three people in the State of Missouri accepted into the Nuclear Medicine Program. She worked for several years in this field and made a complete career change in the early 1980’s when she moved to Virginia. She embarked on what became a very successful Realtor career.

Retiring from real estate in the early 2000’s, she again made a change and after earning her insurance license, worked for GEICO for several years.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Daniel Lee Steele of Jefferson City.  She is survived by her brother, Lynden (Arden) Steele of Florida; her sister, Margaret (Maggie) Blankenship of Chesapeake; her brother, Danton (Jill) Steele II of Florida; her nephews, Danton Steele III, Anthony Steele and Lynden (Jodi) Steele II; and nieces, Zarya Steele and Alexandra Duff and 8 great nephews and nieces; and her dear life-long friends, Susan McLaren Gifford and Rebecca Detmer both of Chesapeake; and many cousins living around the country.

Friends and family are invited to a gathering to celebrate Mary Lee’s life on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.  A private family burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

  2. Mary Lee and I were closer in age I think when I first met her, we were teens and hit it off right away. I have such fond memories of her and Maggie and will treasure them always. I will miss her and pray that she is happy in Heaven with our Heavenly Father.
