Lorene Elizabeth (Distler) Kroeger, 102, of Jefferson City, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at SSM Health St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was born on January 25, 1924, in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of Otto George and Christine Mary (Lehmann) Distler.

Lorene was a 1941 graduate of St. Peter Catholic High School.

She was united in marriage to Albert James Kroeger, Sr. at St. Peter Catholic Church on May 3, 1947, Al preceded her in death on June 21, 1975.

Lorene worked for the Missouri State Senate as a Secretary to Senate Pro-Tem, Appropriations Chairman and in Senate Research retiring in October 1990 after 26 years.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church.

Lorene was involved with St. Peter Ladies Sodality, was a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital for over 30 years, enjoyed bowling and was an avid bridge player. She also enjoyed crocheting Afghans for Angels while watching golf and football on TV. (Go Notre Dame!). Her quick response, I will pray the rosary for you, was always an answer when help was requested by anyone. She was the Queen of Playing Cards at Auburn Ridge and was a very tech savvy woman with her IPad and IPhone always handy.

She is survived by her four children, Suzanne Grant, A.J. Kroeger, Janet (Dennis) Veit and, Steven (Pamela) Kroeger; grandchildren, Matthew (Tricia) Veit, Jessica (Jordan) Haug, Nicklaus (Amy) Kroeger, and Samuel (Hayley) Kroeger; great grandchildren, Amyliah Quist, Andrew Haug, Nora Haug, Alison Haug and Charoltte Kroeger.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and siblings, Isidora Meyer, Vincent Distler, Herbert Distler, and Virginia Wingrath.

Visitation will be 9-10 a.m., Friday, July 17, 2026, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating.

Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or to the family’s choice.

  1. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Lorene. She and my mom, Roxie used to get together every month to have breakfast together at McDonalds. They said they solved all the world’s problems during their breakfast.They shared many times together over the years with Boy Scouts with our brother’s. Your mom was such a kind person and always a lady. My thoughts and prayers are with your family. May she rest in peace.
