Letha Ann Piper, 64, of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis surrounded by her family.

She was born September 26, 1961, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Leroy Louis and Jewell Dean (Fischer) Wilbers.

Letha was a 1979 graduate of Blair Oaks High School.

On March 16, 2013, in Jefferson City, Letha was united in marriage to Tommy Ray Piper who preceded her in death on May 16, 2024.

Letha worked for over 22 years with the Jefferson City Public Schools as an Administrative Assistant in Special Education.  She also provided in-home daycare over the years for many beloved children. In her retirement, she worked part time at the Missouri State Capitol for the Joint Committee on Public Employee Retirement.

She was an active member of The Crossing in Columbia where she was a Care Ministry Leader, a member of the 50’s Plus Club, and the Stephens Ministry. She also cherished her time volunteering for numerous causes including Jefferson City Room at the Inn, Hobbs Little Free Library, Coyote Hill, Dreams to Reality, Council for Drug Free Youth, and the Special Olympics.

Letha loved to travel with Tom around the world. She also enjoyed spending time with their camping group, and especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include two children, Beth (John) Pearson, Vestavia, AL; James Moeckli, Springfield, MO; three grandchildren, Grace Pearson, Graham Pearson, Grady Pearson; stepson, Jason (Mindy) Piper and children Andrew, Alexis, CJ, and great-grandchild Alora, New Bloomfield; five siblings, Mary (Daryl) Heet, Taos; Lee (Sherri) Wilbers, Lake Ozark; Tom (Geri) Wilbers, Holts Summit; Tim (Barb) Wilbers, Wardsville; Gary (Dana) Wilbers, Wardsville; numerous nieces and nephews, and other extended family members and dear friends.

Letha was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Children of all ages were drawn to her because of the joy and adventure she brought to every day. She had a way of making people feel known and loved.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Tom.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m., Monday, July 13, 2026, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City followed by a life celebration service at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are encouraged to Cole County Parks, Jefferson City Room at the Inn, or to the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in St. Louis MO.

  1. I will miss you so much. I know you are smiling now. God needed you. Which i don’t blame him. Love you fly high and be free.

  2. Letha was such a wonderful person and friend. We met through a grief support group and formed our own group of nine from there. It seems like she was involved in so many more volunteer opportunities than listed above. She truly had a servant’s heart and shined a light for Christ through everything she did. I will miss her dearly. Blessings and comfort to her family.

  4. So very sad to learn of Letha’s passing. My first thought was of dear Beth. Letha loved her children beyond measure and was a blessing to all who knew her. Sending prayers and warm thoughts.💔

  5. Letha was always so great to help when needed in her position with JCSD, and she and Tom built and registered the Little Library at our School, Thorpe Gordon STEM Academy. Prayers to her family, as she was a great lady and will be missed.
