Alfred William Kirkweg, 86, of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at StoneBridge Senior Living – Oak Tree.
He was born on July 9, 1940, in St. Elizabeth, Missouri, the son of William Joseph and Mary Heinretta (Borgmeyer) Kirkweg.
He was united in marriage to Mary Kathryn Rannabargar at St. Martin Catholic Church, on July 9, 1960. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2022.
Alfred served his country as a seventeen-year-old in the United States Army Reserves.
Alfred worked thirty years as a carpenter for Braun Plastering and was a member of the Carpenter Union #945.
He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church.
When his children were growing up, he coached baseball and drove the bus to sporting events. He also enjoyed helping with Boy Scout events. He loved to play music, especially his guitar, and sang with several local groups. An avid gardener, he loved the outdoors and could always find something to do. He especially loved to camp and fish with his family.
He is survived by three children, William (Janet) Kirkweg, Jefferson City; Donna (Ron) Rehagen, Freeburg; and Lisa (Dwayne) McKinney, Holts Summit; a son-in-law, Mark McBaine, Jefferson City; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Delores Bax, St. Martin; a sister-in-law, Anna Lou Kirkweg, Eldon; and a brother-in-law, Louis Toebben, Taos.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Alice McBaine; a grandson, Christopher William Kirkweg; brothers, Cornelious (Geraldine) Kirkweg, Clarence (Mary Ellen) Kirkweg, Norbert Kirkweg; sisters, Alice (Linus) Patton, Eleanor (Delmar) Edwards, Rosalee (John) Hentges, Alvera (Marvin) Holliday, Rita (George) Braun, and Delphine Toebben; and a brother-in-law, Dave Bax.
Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Monday, August 3, 2026, at Trimble Funeral Homes with a prayer service at 4:30 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at St. Martin Catholic Church with Rev. Dylan Schrader, PhD officiating.
Burial will be in St. Martin Catholic Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Martin Catholic Church or to the American Cancer Society.
