George "Ted" Foster

January 27, 1944 ~ August 6, 2026

George “Ted” Foster Sr., 82 of Jefferson City passed away at his home surrounded by family on Thursday, August 6, 2026.

On January 27, 1944, Ted was born to the late Charles and Jessie (Blackorby) Foster in Hardin, Illinois. After the family moved to Muscatine, Iowa, Ted attended school and was a graduate of Muscatine Community College. On August 21, 1969 he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Before being shipped overseas, Ted married Charlotte Cardwell on September 20, 1969 at Ft. Campbell Kentucky. Ted fought during the Vietnam War. Unfortunately, many of his health issues late in life were from exposure to Agent Orange.

After receiving his Honorable Discharge, Ted and Charlotte moved to Jefferson City. Ted worked as an officer for the Missouri Dept. of Corrections for over 19 years. Charlotte and he then moved to Muscatine, Iowa where Ted served as a Transport Officer with the Muscatine Sherrif’s Dept.

In his free time, Ted enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially squirrels and deer. He was an avid collector of hunting knives and Western art. In his younger years, Ted and Charlotte loved traveling all over the United States.

Survivors include his wife; Charlotte of Jefferson City, five children; Wenda (Derrin) Smith-Beason of Muscatine, IA, Ricky Gene (Dori) Smith of Appleton, WI, Steven Leroy (Mike Spann) Smith of Cathedral City, CA, Heather (Eric) Gray of Jefferson City, George Foster Jr. of Middletown, MO; twenty eight grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Foster of Middletown, MO, Fred (Linda) Foster of Opelousas, LA; one sister, Ida (John) Mocilan of Peoria, IL and many nieces and nephews. Ted was preceded in death by two brothers; Tom and Charles Foster; two sisters, Sue Cole and Mary Foster; sister-in-law, Robin Foster.

A few weeks before he passed, Ted was able to enjoy a celebration of his life with a gathering of family and friends honoring his military service, sharing stories and memories with a few jokes and much laughter.
