Mildred Catherine Massman

Mildred Catherine Massman, 91, of Wardsville, passed away Saturday, August 15, 2026, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born May 25, 1935, at home in Wardsville, the daughter of Aloysius and Theresa (Luebbert) Wilbers.

She was united in marriage on May 30, 1956, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville to Walter John Massman who preceded her in death on January 1, 2023.

In her younger years, Mildred worked for the Dime Store and the Shoe Factory.  She spent the majority of her life as a loving and caring homemaker to her husband and her ten children.

She was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, perpetual adoration hour which her and her husband did for years and were very devoted to and hardly ever missed, the Over 50 Club, Ladies Sodality, cooked with church neighbors for weddings and funerals, and taught Sunday School.

Mil had a beautiful smile.  She lived her life with a simplicity that her family all took to heart and learned a great deal from.  She was very seldom idle, but she was a great listener, content to sit in the background.  She was only allowed eight years of school but encouraged her children to get all the education they could.  She kept herself busy with cooking, gardening, canning and caring for her family.  She made holidays special with her homemade cooking talents, especially her dinner rolls.  She was amazingly sweet, but also stubborn and tough, even in the later years when dementia started to take her away.  It seems fitting that she passed on the Feast of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as she was devoted to her faith, she was kind, patient and had a quiet strength, such as Mary. 

Survivors include ten children, Charlie (Paula) Massman, Jefferson City; Gary Massman, Wardsville; Ronnie (Marie) Massman, Eldon; Robert (Denise) Massman, Henley; Debbie (Dave) Keller, Russellville; Danny (Carla) Massman, New Bloomfield; Mark (Melissa) Massman, Wardsville; Karen (Doug) Koetting, Henley; Kenny Massman, Jefferson City; Becky Litfin, Honey Creek; 31 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three siblings, Odelia Wolken, Wardsville; Toby (Nancy) Wilbers, Wardsville; and Carol (Larry) Buechter, Wardsville.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Tootie (Jack) Weaver; niece, Michelle Massman; two sisters-in-law, Millie (Vic) Farris and Betty Massman; and a brother-in-law, Albert Wolken.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Trimble Funeral Homes – Jefferson City, with a prayer service at 3:15 p.m.  Additional visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating.

Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to St. Stanislaus Foundation or to the Alzheimer’s Association.
