John R. Bahr

John R. Bahr, 82, of Jefferson City passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 13, 2026 surrounded by his family.  He was born July 3, 1944 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City to Charles A. and Margaret (Brester) Bahr.

John was a 1962 graduate of Jamestown High School.  Following high school, he worked for the Missouri State Highway Department until 1965, when he entered the United States Army.  He proudly served from July 1965 to July 1967 as a medical assistant at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.  He continued serving in the Army Reserves until 1971.  Following his honorable discharge, John was recruited by the United States Postal Service, where he worked as a letter carrier until his retirement.

John married Barbara Tappel on May 6, 1967 at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Koeltztown, MO.  They shared many years together and built a life centered around family and friendship.

John was loyal member of the Disabled American Veterans, Fraternal Order of the Eagles and the American Legion.  He was also an avid fisherman and cherished the time spent fishing with his good friend and fishing buddy, John Carwile.

John is survived by his wife, Barbara of Jefferson City, his daughter, Gayla Welsh of Osage Beach, his grandson, Jack Welsh of Lake Ozark and sister-in-law, Linda Pritzel of Koeltztown.  He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Carl and many dear friends.

John will be remembered for his devotion to family, friendships and the simple pleasures he enjoyed throughout his life.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Trimble Funeral Home, 3210 N. Ten Mile Dr., Jeffeson City.  A prayer service will begin at 1:00 p.m. followed by military rites.  Private family interment at Riverview Cemetery will take place at a later date.
