August “Bern” Bonderer, 57, of Hartsburg, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 29, 1968, in Columbia, MO, the son of Anthony Fredrick and Mary Elizabeth (Norman) Bonderer.

Bern was a 1987 graduate of Fulton High School, later graduating from Westminster College with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Bern was a CPA who worked for Twehous Excavating Company as the CFO for over 2 decades. He was also a MSHSSA certified soccer referee for over 10 years.

He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph.

Bern was known to be, what some might consider, “obsessed” with a few different things. If you knew him, you know this list could be paragraphs long. For starters, he was an avid fan of Alabama football, the St. Louis Cardinals, Jimmy Buffett, and Southern Boone Soccer. He loved his Swiss heritage, Halloween, watching Marvel superhero movies, and hunting with friends and family. Above all else, he moved heaven and earth to be present for and support his three sons.

Survivors include his mother, Mary; three sons, Matthew (Olivia) Bonderer, Christopher (Hannah) Bonderer, and Samuel (Haylee) Bonderer; two siblings, Andrew (Stacey) Bonderer, and Lisa (David) Allen.

Bern was preceded in death by his father.

  1. I am saddened to hear this. I met Bern at the Ashland Optimist Club playing Bingo there. Such a nice person. Cancer free now RIP

  2. It saddens me to think such a good person is gone too soon. Bern was such a good friend, and he was always such a caring person that always wanted to help people any way he could whether he was helping at Bingo, sports etc. He will truly be missed. RIP my friend.

  3. Bern was a special guy and have so much of his time. But for sure his legacy is doing the ice cream cone pitchers mound for tee ball. After watching him do that. Of course, while filling in for him, we all had to do our best impression of that ice cream cone pitchers mound. Ice cream cone pitchers mounds forever in honor of Bern ❤️

  4. From coaching kids soccer to running the T-ball and Coach pitch leagues, to making the best Saturday morning breakfasts, to organizing the Red Kettle campaign for the holidays, Bern leaves an indelible legacy of Optimism, love and kindness for all of us in Southern Boone to emulate.

  5. Bern and I went to school together, he was one year below me. Incredible guy!!! He was a great friend to me all through high school. I am very sorry to hear of his passing. RIP my friend!!!!

  6. Lisa and family, my deepest condolences. Although I didn’t know Bern, he sounds like he was a wonderful father, brother, son, uncle, and friend. May he rest in peace. Love you and big hugs!❤️

  7. I am saddened by the loss of Bern. I also met him at Bingo in Ashland. He was always excited to tell us what he had made for dessert that night (which by the way were always amazing) Rest in Peace as you are now cancer free and pain free. Gaiya H

  8. My condolences to all of Bern’s family and friends. He was a great man and father. I enjoyed getting to know him and the family during my years at S.Boone HS.

  9. Bern family

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Bern was such a loving giving person with soccer and optimist baseball fields. He was an amazing person who never wanted the spotlight on him.
