Adrianus Peter "Andy" Nelen, 89, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, January 15, 2015, at Westphalia Hills. He was born February 11, 1925, in Woensdrecht, Netherlands, the son of the late Lodovicus Adrianus and Julia Johanna (Kuijlen) Nelen. Andy became a naturalized citizen of the United States on December 9, 1959, in West Palm Beach, Florida. He was united in marriage on November 3, 1970, at Divine Providence Church in Bergen op Zoom, Netherlands, to Margaret Theresa Stavarski who survives. Andy worked as a baker for various hotels and resorts across the country. While in Missouri he worked for Tan-Tar-A and Lodge of the Four Seasons, where he was the head pastry chef. He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph. One of his favorite hobbies was to garden. Survivors include his wife, Margaret; his son, Fr. Louis Nelen, Jefferson City; and many other extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki and the Rev. Louis Nelen concelebrating. Visitation will be 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at the Cathedral of St. Joseph. Burial will be in the historic St. Patrick Cemetery in Laurie, Missouri. Memorials are suggested to the Samaritan Center, 1310 East McCarty Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101; or to the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 2305 West Main Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
