Alfred Hugo Schmitz
May 25, 1931 ~ January 11, 2026
Alfred Hugo Schmitz, 94, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away Sunday, January 11, 2026, at his home surrounded by his family.
Born on May 25,1931, in Jefferson City, Missouri, he was the son of Tobias William and Margaret Elizabeth (Schrimpf) Schmitz.
Alfred was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a graduate of St. Peter High School.
On May 5, 1956, he was united in marriage to Irma Lucille Eggen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jefferson City.
Alfred served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Following active duty in the armed forces, he enjoyed a fifty-four-year career as a plumber and owner of Frank Schrimpf Plumbing and Heating. Alfred was a member of the I.C. Holy Name Society, Parish Council, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and served on the Jefferson City Plumbing Board.
He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a man of deep faith, remembered for his vibrant blue eyes and gentle spirit. His wife, family, and church were always the center of his life.
A man who truly loved hard work, he was always dreaming up new projects—building his own boat and even dynamiting a hillside to build a family lake cabin where he enjoyed boating, fishing, and making lasting memories. He loved country music, good conversation with his coffee group, class reunions, and playing Rummikub and cards with his family and caregivers—always a gracious winner.
His quick wit and memorable stories will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. His life was one of service and devotion; his legacy lives on through the family he cherished so deeply. You can still honk and wave when you go by the house.
He is survived by six children, Paul (Ann) Schmitz, Parkville, MO; Debbie (Kevin) Scherr, Jefferson City, MO; Charles (Lisa) Schmitz, Kansas City, MO; Michele (Dr. Eric) Caywood, Jefferson City, MO; Rev. John Schmitz, Laurie, MO; and Jim (Lisa) Schmitz, Jefferson City, MO; one son-in-law, Michael Schweiss, Jefferson City, MO., fourteen grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Dee Noonan, Jefferson City, MO.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Irma; a daughter, Marcia Schweiss; one grandchild; Taylor Schmitz, two infant sisters, Carol Ann Schmitz and Frances Schmitz, two brothers, Frank (Lucille) Schmitz and Kenneth (Barbara) Schmitz; and a brother-in-law, Joe Noonan.

You and your family and the peaceful repose of your dad’s soul will be in my intentions at rosary today. God bless you all!
Prayers to Paul, Debbie, Chuck, Michele, Fr. Schmitz, Jim and your families. Warm hugs.
Rejoicing that Alfred is home with our Lord, while our hearts are breaking. He and Irma were such wonderful people. My husband and I rented a house from them for many, many years. When we got married, they invited us into their home to talk about marriage, love and Jesus. I’ll never forget them and their abundant kindness, warmth and Alfred’s humor and laugh. Sending love, hugs and prayers to the family who also comforted us when my husband lost his father suddenly. You’ll forever be an extended part of our family.
Much Love, Robert & Courtney Koenigsfeld
Alfred and Irma are together again! Heaven is rejoicing.
May comfort come to the entire family. What great role models they both were.
He will forever be in your heart – hold on to the memories.
