It is with sorrow but with profound love that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Anita Kay Barrows, on Wednesday April 9th at the age of 79. While we are heartbroken by the loss, we take comfort in knowing that she is reunited in heaven with the love of her life, our dad Norman Barrows.
Anita was born on May 20, 1945, in Fort Madison, Iowa to Charles Jacob and Vera Kathleen (Martin) Richey.
She was a 1963 graduate of Kahoka High School in Kahoka, Missouri. Anita had a beautiful voice and in her teenage years sang with the Missouri State Choir. She was among the vocalists recorded on their two albums.
She was married on September 18, 1965, in Kahoka, Missouri to Norman Mark Barrows who preceded her in death on January 20, 2011.
Anita was the Senior Vice President at the Summit Bank in Holts Summit from 1975-1988 and Executive Vice President at Midwest Independent Bank from 1988 until she retired on May 31, 2007.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church; Holts Summit Civic Association; Missouri Bankers Association, Missouri Independent Bankers Association, National Association of Banking Women, and the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce.
She loved to go “junking for antiques”, read, listen to music, and was passionate about genealogy. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and took great pride in her grandson’s and great-grandson.
She was the epitome of unconditional love, kindness and positivity. She was a constant source of comfort to all who crossed paths with her whether they were family, friends or strangers. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel seen and cherished.
More than just a mother, she was a friend, and a confidant who loved unconditionally. With an unbreakable spirit and radiant smile, her life was a testament to the power of love.

So enjoyed running into Anita and spending a few minutes catching up. She was such a delight to be around. To Anita’s family: it is obvious that she loved, and was loved, by all of you. I hope all the wonderful memories bring you joy in the days ahead. May Anita’s memory always be a blessing.
We are so sorry for your loss.
Sending the family prayers and condolences. Cherish the abundant wonderful memories. Rest in God’s eternal peace Anita.
I’m so sorry to hear of Anita’s passing. She had a beautiful voice and I have memories of her singing in high school.
Anita was a volunteer at the Family History Center at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 2016. I loved serving with her as a consultant there. She truly loved others as Christ does and I have no doubt she is in His presence now. Anita was also a beloved neighbor for more than 15 years and the Buckskin Home Owners Association treasurer for several years. We all loved her! May she rest in peace and may her family be comforted.
