Cecilia Joan Schmitz

She was born October 17, 1941, in Freeburg, the daughter of the late Henry and Gertrude (Richter) Struemph.
Cecilia was a 1959 graduate of Fatima High School in Westphalia.
She was married September 26, 1964, in Freeburg to Robert Joseph “Bob” Becker who preceded her in death on January 29, 2001. She was united in marriage on September 30, 2006, in Freeburg to Donald Schmitz who survives at the home.
Cecilia worked for over 30 years for the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education as a Data Entry Clerk.
She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg and the American Legion Auxiliary. Cecilia enjoyed social events including dancing and hosting parties. Her greatest love was her family especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Donald Schmitz, Freeburg; two children, Mark (Melissa) Becker , Argyle; Carrie (Jeff) Swarthout, Freeburg; two step-children, Kimberly Schmitz, Columbia, SC; Michelle Brandt (Jim Hoover), Country Club Village, MO; seven grandchildren, John Becker, Emma Becker, Tony (Melanie) Swarthout, Jake Swarthout, Olivia Swarthout, Miles Brandt, Mila Brandt; one great-grandchild, Dallas Swarthout; three sisters, Kate Wegman, Wasco, CA; Elizabeth Stratman, Freeburg; and Teresa Buschmann, Freeburg; and in-laws, Janet Struemph, Fennley, NV; Marilyn Fowler, Linn; David Schmitz (Linda), Jefferson City; Sister Esther Becker, St. Louis; and John Becker (Linda), Jefferson City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Bob Becker; two sisters, Marie Ortbals and Loretta Klein; and four brothers, Bud, Emil, John “Honse”, and Jim Struemph.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Saturday, October 9, 2021, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Freeburg, with a rosary recited at 8:45 a.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with the Rev. William D. Debo officiating.
Burial will be in Holy Family Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Holy Family Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
