Charles Henry Markway, 85, of Wardsville, Mo., died Wednesday, October 16, 2013, at his residence. He was born on October 30, 1927, in Wardsville, the son of the late Fred Charles and Leona Theresa Prenger Markway. He attended St. Stanislaus School and St. Peter Catholic High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a recipient of a Bronze Star. Mr. Markway was employed as a truck driver for Kampeter Trucking for many years and also was a milk and cattle truck driver. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville; Knights of Columbus; the Over 50 Club; and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He was a former coach for the Lions Club baseball team, was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and loved to go to the casinos. Survivors include: one sister, Lillian Veit, Wardsville; and three brothers, Harold (Mary) Markway, Jefferson City; William (Alice) Markway, Westphalia; Fred (JoAnn) Markway, Jefferson City; one sister-in-law, Pauline Markway, Wardsville; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, Lawrence Markway. Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2013, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Wardsville with the Rev. I.C. Medina officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be 1-2 p.m. Sunday at the church.
