Charles William "Bill" Johnson, 70, of Lake Ozark, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2015, at his residence surrounded by his family.
He was born February 23, 1945, in Mexico, Missouri the son of the late Cecil and Lorene (Crump) Johnson.
Bill was a graduate of Mexico High School in 1963. He received his Bachelors of Arts Degree in Public Administration/Political Science from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1967.
Bill began his career as an agent for the Missouri Department of Liquor Control and then served as the Coordinator of Training Programs for the Department of Community Affairs from 1968 to 1973. In 1973, he joined the Missouri Municipal League as a lobbyist and found his true professional passion. While representing the interests of all Missouri's cities to the State Legislature, he also at various times, had special emphasis contracts through the League with both Kansas City and Springfield. Bill worked for the League for over 25 years and retired as Deputy Director. He received The John G. Stutz Service Award from the National League of Cities.
He was a former member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a current member of the Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. As a church parishioner, Bill served as an usher for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Missouri State Association of Executives (MSAE), and the Elks Lodge.
Bill was an avid reader and a great debater with a true interest in political history. After retiring, he enrolled in numerous history classes at the Lake through Columbia College. In his free time he enjoyed playing golf, however in reality, he was more of a golf ball collector.
Family was the most important part of Bill's life. Not only was the family blessed to have the opportunity to raise their children but to foster many wonderful young boys and girls. He was a terrific husband, a loving father, and truly treasured his role as grandfather.
In addition to his wife Mary Ann, he is survived by five children, Elizabeth (J.D) Sosnoff, Chesterfield, MO; Megan (Joe) Braun, O'Fallon, MO; Temperance Johnson, Ph.D., El Paso, TX; Mary Kathleen "Katie" (John) Nemec, Fenton, MO; Chief Petty Officer Robert Patrick (Jennifer) Johnson, USN, Hampton, VA; one brother, James Robert "Bob" (Joyce) Johnson, two nephews, William and Ian Johnson, O'Fallon, IL; and fourteen fantastic grandchildren: Connor Sosnoff, Emma Sosnoff, William Grayson Sosnoff, Joshua Sosnoff, Samuel William Braun, Maggie Braun, Caroline Braun, Madison Quintana, Jacob Nemec, Darby Nemec, Alice Nemec, Benjamin Johnson, Owen Johnson, and Elliot Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Jefferson City.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. Marion J. Makarewicz officiating.
Burial will be in Mexico, Missouri at a later date.

Mary Ann, I am so sorry to learn of Bill’s passing. While I haven’t seen you or Bill in a long time, I certainly remember seeing him in the Capitol and the good times I had playing bridge with you. Our thoughts are of you and your family. Mike and Clara Stephenson
