December 9, 1929 ~ March 21, 2015
Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Huhman, 85, passed from this world on Saturday, March 21, 2015, at Hospice Unit of Research Hospital in Kansas City after contending with a genetic illness for the past 40 years.
She was born in Meta, Missouri, on December 9, 1929, the last daughter to Edward Bernard Bax and Anna Huberta Shaefer Bax, who preceded her in death.
On November 1, 1946, she was married at Fort Knox, Kentucky, to F. J. "Bus" Huhman, who preceded her in death on February 23, 1990.
She held fond memories of teenage years working at the old McKinney Brothers Caf in Jefferson City and traditionally baked their famous oatmeal raisin cookies. Later, she practiced a private seamstress service for bridal parties. She was employed by the original Gerbes in Jefferson City from its opening, and progressed to the Bakery and Deli Manager of the West End Gerbes prior to her forced early retirement due to health issues. She provided many wedding, special celebrations, and birthday cakes for friends and family for decades.
She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church for over 60 years. She was active for those same years in the Ave Marie Chapter of the Immaculata Club. She devoted decades of joyful service to the Saint Ann's Sodality and the Saint Ann's Quilting Club. She held a special interest in the Samaritan Center and created many beautiful fully hand made quilts for fund-raising for the local Hospice Center, Habitat for Humanity, and anyone else who came to her in need of her skills. Her prize quilts were for her family, but her family's most proud quilts were those for FDNY, Brooklyn, NY, Squad 1. The blocks made by children came from Brooklyn, New York, Knoxville, Tennessee, and Honesdale, Pennsylvania and were presented to the families of 9/11.
She is survived by five daughters: Victoria Ann Schultz and David Schultz of Denton, Texas; Peggy Owens of Lees Summit, Missouri; Joyce Angeline Harkins, Lohman, Missouri; Jennifer Lynn Kliegel and Ted McMorris of Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York; and Ann Frances Richardson and David Richardson of Kansas City, Missouri. Betty is also survived by grandchildren: Kelly Renee Redburn and Charles Redburn of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Caitlin Schultz of Denton, Texas; Brian Owens and Jennifer Jones of Castle Pines, Colorado; Angeline Leigh Harkins of Independence, Missouri; Liza Elaine Harkins of Grandview, Missouri; Simon Douglas Harkins and Taylor Wirht of Dallas, Texas; and Reese Richardson and Jonah Richardson of Kansas City, Missouri. Great Grandchildren: Zachary Isiah Redburn and Danielle Redburn of Dickinson, North Dakota, Caleb Wayne Redburn, Joshua Nathaniel Redburn and Abigail Victoria Redburn of Fayetteville, Arkansas; Brianna Owens and Brandon Owens of Castle Pines, Colorado; Anthony Harkins of Independence, Missouri, Sebastian and Jasper Harkins of Dallas, Texas; and Olivia Elaine Archer of Grandview, Missouri. Two great, great grandchildren: Kamryn and Brodie Redburn of Dickinson, North Dakota.
She is also survived by two sisters: Mary Louise "Rusty" Claus of Tucson, Arizona and Evelyn Bax Roark and Wiley Roark of Boulder, Colorado. Too numerous to name, there still remain many nieces and nephews with families, cousins, in-laws, and wonderful friends whom she treasured with all her heart. And of course, her best friend and four footed roommate, "Spooky".
She was preceded in death by two brothers: Gilbert Albert Bax and Edward James Bax and two sisters: Angeline Bax and Pauline Bax Russell.
Mass of Christian Burial will 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. David D. Cox officiating.
Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Catholic Cemetery in Wardsville.

Eternity is a long time to be happy and Betty is. Not only is she with Bus and other family members and friends, but she is playing bingo with the angels and winning. She also wants her family and friends on this earth to be at peace. Peace to all of you, Ram, Rita & Eric Kochhar

Please accept my sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy in the loss of your dear mother, Betty. I remember fondly how she would welcome me into her home while the kids in the neighborhood were playing with her girls. She was such a caring person and my mom would always be happy to talk with her while at the store. May she rest in peace.

To Peggy, Vicky and Family,
Offering our condolences and prayers in the loss of your dear Mother and Grandmother.
Although I was a child at the time I knew her, I thought of her many times in regard to her loving and gentle manner. She came up to me just a few years ago after mass at I C and asked if I remembered her. Of course I did, but was surprised she would remember me. She was very special.
