Emil Henry Schwartz, 96 of Westphalia, died Monday, March 21, 2016, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born on September 1, 1919, in Westphalia, Missouri, the son of the late Bernard and Clara Plassmeyer Schwartz.
He was married on September 3, 1966, in Jefferson City to Rosemary Sophia Distler who preceded him in death on October 22, 1995.
He was a 1937 graduate of Westphalia High School.
Mr. Schwartz was a farmer in Osage County all of his life.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia, Western Catholic Union, Westphalia Council 1171 Knights of Columbus, Missouri Farm Bureau where he served as a board member, past President of the Cole County Farm Bureau, board member of the Westphalia Volunteer Fire Department, Westphalia Lions Club, and served as the Chairman of the Board of the Alphonse J. Schwartze Foundation.
Emil was honored by Pope Saint John Paul II as a Papal Knight Commander of Saint Sylvester.
Emil was a life-long fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Survivors include one son, Charles (Sue Ann) Schwartz, Westphalia; one daughter, Julie Ann (Stephen) Wieberg, Freeburg; and eight grandchildren, Katie Wieberg, Sarah Wieberg, Jordan Wieberg, Thomas Schwartz, Jonathan Schwartz, Joseph Schwartz, Mary Schwartz, Peter Schwartz; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Distler, California; and Agnes Distler, Jefferson City.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Leander Schwartze, William, Schwartze, Alphonse Schwartze, and Joseph Schwartze; and one sister, Camilla Schwartz.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. Mark S. Smith officiating.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 22nd, 2016, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m.
