Ferdinand Alexander Ferdy Lehmen, 74, of Westphalia, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born October 9, 1943, in Freeburg, Missouri, the son of the late Norbert John and Elizabeth Elsie (Dickneite) Lehmen. Ferdy was a 1961 graduate of Fatima High School. He served his country in the United States Army and Reserves. He was united in marriage on October 2, 1965, in Argyle, Missouri, to Sharon Fitzpatrick who survives at the home. Ferdy began his work career with McGraw Edison and Central Dealer Service in Jefferson City. In 1973, he and his brother-in-law Bill Crede opened FAB Building Center which they owned and operated until 1988. He and Bill also owned Fab Company Trucking which transported milk throughout Iowa and Illinois in the 1980s. He then started Mid America Truss where he has continued to own and operate until his death. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he served on various committees, Westphalia Lions Club, Home Builders Association, Structural Building Components Association, JC Chamber of Commerce, and was the current president of the Westphalia Fire Protection Board. Ferdy enjoyed crappie fishing, hunting, golfing, driving on the farm, infamous FAB trips, and playing pitch and dominoes. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the love of his life and his dog, Benson, was his faithful companion. Survivors include his wife, Sharon Lehmen, Westphalia; three children, Amy (Steve) Kramer, Rich Fountain; Shelli (Billy) Cannon, Wardsville; Curt (Rachel) Lehmen, Westphalia; seven grandchildren, Courtney (Jake) Berhorst, Caley Kramer, Carson Kramer, Cole Lehmen, Nathan Lehmen, Addison Lehmen, Aiden Cannon; two great-grandchildren, Leni Berhorst, Maximus Berhorst; three siblings, Donna Holterman, Freeburg; Norma Struemph, Freeburg; Leon (Doris) Lehmen, Freeburg; and two sisters-in-law, Wanda (Urban) Hilke, Independence, MO; and Judie (Bill) Crede, Koeltztown. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marilyn Lehmen; and one brother, Marvin Lehmen. Visitation will be 3-6 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2018, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia with a prayer service at 2 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2018, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Westphalia with the Rev. Anthony J. Viviano officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 116, Westphalia, MO 65085. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home in Westphalia, is in charge of arrangements. I remember the days with him and your family, skiing in Colorado, and all of the joy and love our families shared during those times.   13. To all the Lehmen family, I would just like to say I am so sorry for your loss. I am sure your family is aware of the huge contributions he made over the years with the Westphalia Fire District. He and others helped attain an excellent Fire Service as well as the addition of EMS for the Westphalia area. I know many people’s lives were positively affected due to his work with the fire district.   26. I started working for Ferdy at FAB Company in Dyersville, IA in 2001, although I didn’t get to see Ferdy often, I did chat with him on the phone quite a bit. I enjoyed every moment. He was always helpful and wise and I always felt that he had the biggest smile on his face. I send my sincere condolences to you all. He will be greatly missed.
