Francis Joseph "Frank" Schanzmeyer, 88, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at Heisinger Bluffs.
He was born February 17, 1928, in Jefferson City, the son of the late August and Rosa (Huchtmeyer) Schanzmeyer.
Frank was educated in the St. Elizabeth Schools and was a member of the first graduating class of St. Elizabeth High School, Class of 1945. He continued his education attending Trade Schools in St. Louis.
He was united in marriage on October 2, 1954, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth, Missouri to Delphine Christine "Del" Kliethermes who survives.
Frank was employed with Ameren UE in St. Louis for 25 years and with the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union retiring in 1985.
He was a member of the Cathedral of St. Joseph, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 12992, served as President of the St. Vincent DePaul Society at Our Lady of the Presentation Church in St. Louis, Fraternal Order of Eagle's Aerie 2693, the Mended Hearts Club, and volunteered at the Samaritan Center.
Frank enjoyed gardening, hunting, fish gigging, playing pinochle, and watching the St. Louis Cardinals. A favorite time was when he was dancing with his best friend, Del, who he was married to for 62 years.
Survivors include his wife, Del Schanzmeyer, Jefferson City; one brother, Leonard Schanzmeyer, St. Elizabeth; a brother-in-law, Otto Kliethermes, O'Fallon, MO; many nieces and nephews; and other extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Catherine (Joe) Oligschlaeger, Laurentia (Bruno) Verhoff; one brother, August (Clara) Schanzmeyer; and two sisters-in-law, Marie Schanzmeyer and Theresa Kliethermes.
Visitation will be 9:30-11 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday, September 8, 2016, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with the Rev. Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki celebrant and Deacon Steve Schwartz assisting.
Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
