George H. Ousley Jr., 77 of Columbia passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, July 15, 2025 with his wife, Gayleen by his side. They were married March 17, 1997 at Oak Alley Plantation in Vacherie, Louisiana.
He was born January 27, 1948 in Jefferson City to the late George H. and Hazel (Qualls) Ousley, Sr. He grew up in Jefferson City and attended Jefferson City Senior High School. George dropped out of high school his senior year, joining the U.S. Navy during the height of the Vietnam War. He served three tours of duty on the USS Princeton (LPH-5) off the coast of Vietnam, before being honorably discharged in 1969. Under the GI Bill, George went on to attend Columbia College receiving a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology in 1978. In May of 2019, George was extremely honored to walk with the Jefferson City Senior Class in receiving his high school diploma for the class of 1966 from Jefferson City High School.
During his years at Columbia College, he became a partner and then owner of MediCredit Corporation. George then founded The Outsource Group located in Jay Ousley Plaza in Columbia. After 27 years of helping hospital, clinics, physican groups and companies manage their accounts receivable, George sold his business in 2004 giving him the freedom to pursue some other opportunities and causes close to his heart.
George began his philanthropy by establishing the Ousley Family Veterans Service Center at Columbia College to help support veterans and their families transitioning into college. He was a supporter of the Rotary of Boliver Park and Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting as well as the Southwest Early Childhood Center (SWECC) all, in Jefferson City. Each year George looked forward to helping provide Christmas presents to every student at SWECC. George Loved to develop and so he created Southwind Estates in Fulton to help provide affordable housing. One of his passions was mowing grass and taking care of Ousley Farms just outside of Fulton. You might have found him mowing grass or painting or regripping golf clubs with his grandson or taking care of his classic cars or creating a baseball field for his grandchildren or designing a three hole golf course for his family to enjoy on the property. It was his sanctuary to relax and unwind. He and Gayleen also enjoyed traveling with family and friends as well as watching the grandkids play sports. George was a Life Member of Columbia VFW Post 280 and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Columbia.
