Born in: Prescott, Michigan
Resided in: Hunnewell, Missouri

Hargita S. Toalson, 91, of Hunnewell, Missouri, was joined with her Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, August 20, 2025. She passed away at StoneBridge Senior Living-Villa Marie after a brief illness.

She was born May 28, 1934, on a farm near Prescott, Michigan to Samuel and Margaret (Pinke) Stephens.

Hargita was a graduate of Southwestern High School in Detroit and received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology from Michigan State University in 1958.

On August 28, 1965, in St. Louis, she was united in marriage to Edward Toalson, who preceded her in death on March 14, 2020. Edward and Hargita met while they worked together in St. Louis and discovered their shared interest in geology.

She worked as a cartographer at the Defense Mapping Agency in St. Louis and was a homemaker after her children were born.

Hargita was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lemay, in St. Louis. Together with her family, she enjoyed geology, traveling, camping, fishing, reading and gardening. Hargita and Ed always had a rock hammer in their car to investigate and quiz their children about any rock or fossil that looked interesting.

Because she had a keen interest in learning, Hargita was an avid reader and was knowledgeable on a wide variety of topics. On a trip to Hawaii in 1983, they were fascinated by the impending eruption of Mt. Kilauea and wanted to stay longer to watch its progress. Once she and her husband retired, they moved to the Mark Twain Lake area and spent time traveling with their camper all over the United States. She was dedicated to her husband and faithfully cared for him at home during an extended illness.

Hargita was a devoted mother to her two children, Owen (Michelle) Toalson, Jefferson City; and Margaret (Eric) Forman, Arlington, Virginia. Additional survivors include four grandchildren, Harrison Toalson, Henry Toalson, Emeline Forman, and Audrey Forman; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward; a brother, Sam (Marlyn) Stephens; and a sister, Judy (Ervin) Kieffer.
