Helen “Honey” Wilken, 89 of Jefferson City passed away on Tuesday, December 10, 2025 surrounded by family at her home.

She was born in Nelson, MO on April 28, 1936 to the late Gurney and Mary Reed. Helen grew up in Nelson and was a graduate of Nelson High School.  For years she worked as a bookkeeper for the Marshall State School and Hospital, Gamble’s Hardware Store and Sherwin Williams.  Helen later became a real estate broker.  She started her own business, Lakeside Realty in Eldon.  She was also an antique collector and had booths in several antique malls over the years.  Helen enjoyed playing mahjong, but bridge was her passion.  She enjoyed the camaraderie and competitiveness of playing in three different bridge clubs.

Survivors include her three children; Kelly Green of Jefferson City, Larry (Kimberly) Green of Barnett, Shirley Jo Eaves of Edwardsville, IL, two sisters; Carolyn Balke of Clinton, Jackie (Eugene) Self of Marshall; grandchildren and  great grandchildren.  Helen was preceded in death by husbands, Edward Lawrence Green and Bernie Wilken, two brothers and five sisters.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at Trimble Funeral Homes-Jefferson City.  A celebration of Helen’s life will be held at 6:00 p.m. with Reverend Carey Terry of Fairgrounds Rd. Church of Christ officiating.

  1. I found a good friend back in 2017 when we bought our house nextdoor to Helen. We had a great friendship,. We exchanged different recipes, and visited for hours. She would make something and I would have something for her to try.
