James (Jim) Harvey Killion, 73, of Jefferson City, was carried by Jesus to his eternal home on Saturday, August 2, 2014, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis. He was born August 25, 1940, to Wayne Owen Killion of Richmond, Missouri and Eula Laws Royer of Buena Park, California who preceded him in death. Jim was also preceded in death by brothers Ronald Wayne Killion, of Centertown Missouri, and Lyle Laws Killion, of North Hollywood California. Jim attended Cabool High School, and graduated from Anaheim High School, Anaheim California. Jim enlisted in the United States Navy June 20, 1958, and was honorably discharged on May 14, 1964. He was a dental assistant, while serving in the Navy. Jim was united in marriage to Linda Lee Rice of Long Beach, California, in Las Vegas Nevada on December 11, 1965. Jim was employed by the Missouri Department of Corrections for 25 years, working in Transportation, Potosi Maximum Security Prison and the Fulton Receiving Diagnostic Center. He was also employed by the University of Missouri Athletics Department for 19 years part-time, as a supervisor for Event Staff where he continued to work until his death. He was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church of Jefferson City. Jim became an Ordained Deacon at First Baptist Church of Iberia Missouri. Jim loved to be active and some of his favorite activities throughout the years were coaching his sons' baseball teams, bowling, traveling with his wife, playing Bingo at McDonalds and mostly visiting with people as he had never met a stranger. He adored his Granddaughters and loved spending time with them. He loved his family and his church. Jim will be greatly missed by all but we take peace and comfort in knowing he is now at peace and home with his Maker. Jim leaves behind a loving wife Linda, of Jefferson City, son Eric Killion and future daughter-in-law Cara Champlain both of Jefferson City and a daughter and son-in-law Dawn and Byron Pittman of Jefferson City. Jim also leaves behind five Granddaughters: Danielle, Jordan, Kaia, Tina, and Cheyenne as well as many other loving family members. 1. Jim was not only a wonderful father-in-law, but a friend. His easy going demeanor and willingness to help in nearly every situation will be greatly missed.

  2. I had the honor of working with Jim for many years at the prison in Fulton. Jim was a good man as well as skilled supervisor who always maintained an optimistic outlook toward the job and toward life in general. As Bryon said, Jim was always there to help as well as to offer advice whenever needed. I’m proud to say that Jim helped mold my career as a positive example to emulate. My sincere condolences to Jim’s family and especially to his son Eric with whom I also worked for years in Corrections.

  3. I was so sorry to learn of Jim\’s death. I always thought of Jim as one of the

\”good guys\”. I am laid up at home with a broken arm following a fall and cannot get to the visitation but wanted you to know that my sympathies are with you, Linda.

  5. Jim will be missed by all his family and friends. I loved him as my brother in law and I honor him as a veteran of this great nation. May you forever be at Peace in the house of The Lord.

  6. Linda: What a wonderful man he was. We always had a great time at MSP. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family during this difficult time.

  7. I’ve worked with Jim as my supervisor on MU Athletics Event Staff for the past 6 years and he was always great to work with. He was reasonable about enforcing the policies and allowed exceptions when it was appropriate. His sense of humor was entertaining, and he was always asking about my travels. In his role at the front of house for basketball, he was my primary contact and I knew he’d follow up on whatever I asked him about. I’ll miss Jim a lot and send my condolences to Linda and the rest of his family. It just won’t seem the same without him.

  8. Linda, I’m so sorry for your loss. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. May your memories help to ease your sorrow during this sad time.

  15. Linda, Please know you are in my prayers that God will give you the courage & strength to help you in your deepest times of sorrow. Also, may you remember MANY happy times of your life with Jim and be reassured he is smiling with you as well. Jim will be missed. I didn’t get to spend much time with him, but in that small span….I met someone tender hearted, smiled a lot & seemed so content with life in general. Good for him AND all that knew him.
