James “Jim” A. Werner, aged 91 years, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully from this life and surrounded by his loving family, Friday, December 16, 2022. 

Jim was born on August 23, 1931, in the forever home of his heart, Westphalia, Missouri, the only son of Eugene and Mary (Schmidt) Werner. He was united in marriage to Yovetta (Wansing) on November 19, 1966, at Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. To this union two children were born: Kim (Mark) Hudson, O’Fallon, Illinois; and Gina (Matt) Hankins, Jefferson City, Missouri. 

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Jim was educated for twelve years at St. Joseph Catholic School, Westphalia and was part of the graduating class of 1949. Retiring in 1991, Jim worked as a supervisor for the Department of Social Services, Division of Data Processing for 43 years. He was a devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church where he was also a member the Holy Name Society.  Jim was a Golden Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693 of Jefferson City and a lifetime honorary member of Westphalia Knights of Columbus #1171. Dad’s spirit of service was most easily seen in his 20 years volunteering for the Samaritan Center. Consistent with his passion for caring for others, he took great pride in playing an active role in his grandchildren’s lives and accomplishments. Dad had a lifelong love for the game of baseball and was a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved the Stars & Stripes and flew the American flag every day at his home in honor of his country and family members who have served. He loved to travel and enjoyed going out with his Friday Night Dinner Club of friends. Getting together with family and friends meant the world to him. He always enjoyed a good joke or quip given his wry sense of humor. 

In addition to his wife of 56 years, Jim is survived by two daughters and five grandchildren; Tanner Hudson, Caleb Hankins, Taylor Hudson, Connor Hankins, and Cole Hankins, brother-in-law, Wayne Mahon and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters and brothers-in-law: Doris Schauwecker, Ruth (Ambrose) Bocklage, Lillian (Dudley) Cavender, and Rosie Mahon.

Visitation will be held at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  The Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. with Father I.C. Medina officiating.  Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
