Jean Marie Meier, 72, of Russellville, passed away Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Jefferson City Manor.

She was born August 17, 1950, in Jefferson City, the daughter of Dr. Francis Xavier and Loretta Jean (Hurley) Meier.

A 1968 graduate of Helias High School, Jean received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from St. Mary’s College in South Bend, Indiana in 1972.

Jean had a wonderful and exciting career as a retail manager in Manhattan, New York and in her later years in West Palm Beach, Florida, retiring in 2017.

She enjoyed reading, movies, and foreign films.  She loved living and working in New York City and exploring the wonderful restaurants, and cultural events.  She had many friends there and when she was unable to come home to Jefferson City for the holidays, she would spend it with them.  In her later years, she and her friends decided to move to West Palm Beach to continue working to take advantage of the beautiful weather.

Survivors include her father, Dr. Francis Meier, Jefferson City; siblings, Sandy Meier, Russellville; Hurley (Gayle) Meier, Portland Texas; Susan Meier, Jefferson City; Maggie Meier, Jefferson City; Julia (Tom Ladner) Meier, Tulsa, Oklahoma; Matthew (Becky) Meier, Lake St. Louis; and Joseph (Melanie) Meier, Merrimack, New Hampshire; twelve nieces and nephews; and ten great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Loretta, and a sister, Mary Kristie Meier.

The family will hold a celebration of Jean’s life at a future date.

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Hospital.

    I am so sorry to hear about the passing of your sister. I remember visiting your home in grade school and wondrous at all the family interactions. After raising my own family, I am amazed at your mother’s ability to balance all that she did. I hope to see you at the summer gathering. Brenda

  4. Jean was a wonderful friend and coworker. She was a hard worker and always had a smile on her face. We used to get together for lunch she loved a good cheeseburger and fries. I will miss her dearly she was such a wonderful person.
