Joan Underwood, 82, of Jefferson City, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at her residence. She was born July 23, 1934, in Victorville, California, the daughter of the late Nelson and Bammie (Kitchen) King. Joan worked for the Missouri Department of Welfare as a stenographer, was a homemaker raising her children, and worked as a secretary for the Charles E. Still Hospital. She was a member of Community Christian Church. She participated in a local bowling league, was a founder of the Charles E. Still Hospital Gift Shop and was a member of the Still Hospital Guild where she served as a past president and treasurer. Joan was an avid supporter of adopting shelter animals. Survivors include two children, Kimberly (Gary) Kuklin, Omaha, Nebraska; John (Kimberly) Underwood, Jefferson City; three grandchildren, Alexis Branson, Caleb Branson, Madeline Branson; and three siblings, Bob (Gwen) King, Potosi, MO; Jim (Patti) King, Kansas City, MO; and Kenny (Trish) King, Poplar Bluff. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Community Christian Church with the Rev. Coletta Eichenberger and the Rev. Kim Keesler officiating. Entombment will be held in the Community Christian Church Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Jefferson City Animal Shelter, 2308 Hyde Park Road, Jefferson City, MO 65109.
