Joseph Ferdinand Holterman, 85, of Westphalia, Mo., died peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at Jefferson City Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. He was born on September 3, 1928, in Westphalia, the son of the late Edward H. and Mary Luebbert Holterman. He was married on May 19, 1954, in Rich Fountain, Mo., to Zita Margaret Eisterhold who preceded him in death on February 14, 2012. A 1946 graduate of Westphalia High School, Mr. Holterman served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. A lifelong farmer in Osage County, Joe especially enjoyed Farmer's Market, gardening, traveling with his beloved wife, dancing to German music, singing, mushroom hunting, and fishing. His greatest enjoyment came through being a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and always being willing to lend a helping hand. Joe was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, where he served on the Parish Council, St. Joseph School Board, Men's Sodality, and as a cantor, communion minister, and lector. He was also a member of the Westphalia Knights of Columbus Council and Fourth Degree Assembly 2811; was a sixty-year member of the Westphalia American Legion; and was a charter member of the Westphalia Historical Society. Survivors include nine children, Pat Reinkemeyer, Jefferson City; Gary (Debbie) Holterman, Overland Park, Kansas; Gerilynn (Fred) Gaines, Taos, Mo.; Paul (Karen) Holterman, Taos, Mo.; Kathy (John) Branson, Westphalia; Doris (Steve) Voss, Linn, Mo.; Mark (Stacy) Holterman, Jefferson City; Karen (Terry) Mebruer, Rich Fountain, Mo.; and Kristie (Andy) Haller, Rich Fountain, Mo.; twenty-six grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Clara Fischer, Holts Summit, Mo.; Alice (Cornelius) Westerman, Lohman, Mo.; Betty Lou Stegeman, Folk, Mo.; and Marilyn (R.V.) Gatz, Raytown, Mo.; and one sister-in-law, Anna Mae Holterman, Westphalia. He was preceded in death by one son, Kevin Holterman; one brother, Elmer Holterman; and one son-in-law, Alan Reinkemeyer. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 14, 2014, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with the Rev. Mark A. Smith, officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Westphalia. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, June 13th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O.     Sending condolences and prayers for all of you. However, since the visitation is in Church I will not be able to attend as I can’t maneuver my wheelchair down the side aisles. Jim and I will miss your Dad and know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers. Julie is going to try and come in my stead due to the mobility issues. Unfortunately, Julie and I are heading out of town Saturday morning for a family wedding so we will not be at the Mass either.
