Loretta Catherine McCoy, 79, of Jefferson City, passed away on Sunday, July 11, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital after an upper respiratory illness. Loretta was born on September 20, 1941 in McKeesport, PA, the daughter of the late Charles Joseph Daczkowski and Mary Ochap Daczkowski. She was a member of the St. Mary Czestokowa Catholic Church of McKeesport and Mrs. McCoy was a 1959 graduate of McKeesport High School, McKeesport, PA. As a young woman Loretta undertook secretarial studies and became accomplished at shorthand transcription and typewriting. Her initial position was at McKeesport Hospital in the business office.

Loretta moved with friends to Cocoa Beach, Florida in 1965 and was employed by Chrysler in the highly successful Saturn_1B moon rocket development program. After moving to California in 1967, she accepted employment at Lockheed Missiles & Space Systems, where she initially worked on the Navy Poseidon program, followed by the Agena Satellite Launch System program and numerous space satellite projects.

Loretta married Lockheed Space Systems coworker James McCoy on September 28th, 1974 in Carmel, California. Mrs. McCoy and her husband James moved to Harrogate, North Yorkshire in 1977, where they were employed by Ford Aerospace (Loretta) & Lockheed (James) in support of the UK Ministry of Defense to secure NATO communications during the Cold War. Later on, Loretta had assignments in Australia at the Joint Defense Space Research Facility.

After returning to California in 1979, Loretta and James, with two friends, developed a vineyard in the Russian River region of Sonoma County in the 1980s. Loretta enrolled on a company program at Foothill College and completed her studies in Business Accounting, receiving an Associate of Arts degree in 1988. Mrs. McCoy was then promoted to a position of Cost Accounting Analyst responsible for assuring that government contracts were executed correctly and within cost at Lockheed Space Systems.

Mrs. McCoy retired in 1998 from Lockheed after 33 years, and with her husband James, moved from Los Altos, California to Sandia Heights, New Mexico in 2003 in retirement. Later, in 2011, after medical problems re: the high altitudes of New Mexico, they moved to Jefferson City, Missouri to be closer to their families and not coincidentally, much closer to sea level. In retirement, Loretta enjoyed cycling, swimming, hiking and aquatic exercise. She was an accomplished golfer. Her favorite pastime was hiking and bird watching near the McCoys’ home, in Binder Lake Park and at the Runge Open Space trails.

Mrs. McCoy was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Mary Daczkowski. She is survived by: husband James McCoy of Jefferson City, sister Florence Kundman of Bel Vernon, PA, fraternal twin brother Lawrence Daczkowski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, and brother Charles Daczkowski, of Houston, TX.

  1. In loving memory of Loretta McCoy. Always remembered and in our hearts forever.

  2. There is a video taken at Loretta’s Memorial Service, 55 minutes, can be reached on her obituary/tribute pages at dulletrimble.com. A direct link is as follows: client.tribucast.com/tcid/9086707010 Many thanks to Steve Stough and Alphina for the lovely flower arrangements, many thanks to Peter and Fran Bliven, to Heather and Garrett Zuleger for the very fine flowers. They were prominent and major in the beauty of the memorial room. Sue Ross, Lenora (Rusty) Rivenes, and Sue Ross sent some lovely flowers to adorn the proceedings. Neighbors Julie & Dan Case sent a wonderful flower arrangement as did Donald & Vicky (McCoy) Brown and Dawn Renee Utz. Debi (McCoy) Huff could not be with us on account of recent surgery, she and her husband Dennis sent beautiful floral arrangement. Jim’s nieces & Debi’s daughters : Lauren Huff & Melissa Gerhart sent a plant arrangement that will still be tickin’ over many months from now. Husband James sent a dozen yellow and white roses arrangement ( “Best of friends, in the beginning, the middle, and at the end. From your husband with affection” ) To these James added a dozen red roses arrangement,( “Love You For All Time, Loretta: Love, James.” )

  3. end of line 7, line 8 should read. …Sue Ross, Lenora (Rusty) Rivenes, & Carolyn Nelson …sent some lovely flowers to adorn the proceedings.

  4. After the memorial service, …, we were led by funeral director, the estimable John Delaporte, onto Truman Blvd, to the Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. I was struck by the respect given by automobiles pulled over as our funeral caravan passed and turned into the Resurrection Catholic cemetery mausoleum area, where Steve Kleithermes gave an interesting reading of the 23rd Psalm. We then met Alan Lepper and walked through the Pieta rock garden to columbarium niche 4D. Deacon Kliethermes blessed the recessed area of the niche with water from the Jordan River, and Loretta’s rose/cream colored urn was placed carefully in place, for perpetuity. Someday, my earthly remains will join her for eternity in this two urn niche. John Delaporte suggested that I leave one each: white, yellow and red rose(s) , which I did, placing the beautiful flowers beneath the niche, in mourning the loss of Dearest Loretta and her ascension to eternity. Requiescat in pace, dear heart. James, Friday, Nov. 12th, 2021.

  5. Sister Debi Sue and husband Dennis Huff sent an arrangements of Pink, Red, White roses with lilys, fern, hawthorn berries, striking miniature small burgundy roses, white carnations and white chrysanthemums. Breathtaking Debi and Dennis, Loretta would have so loved it.

  6. Sheila Holscher brought over a striking Orchid, light burgundy in color, in her note it read: This orchid reminded me of Loretta: Elegant, beautiful, fragile, & forever blossoming.”

  7. Sue Ross, Rusty Rivenes, and Carolyn Nelson flowers were prominently at the front of the memorial service: in a note she wrote to James, Sue said: “I am so very saddened about the passing of Loretta. Loretta was special – but she didn’t know she was special. There was this gentleness about her that I loved. We had many crazy, fun times together, especially when we were young girls. I feel so blessed to have had a friend like Loretta.”

  8. Graveside Service ( ( 11-23-2021; 11am; Mrs Loretta McCoy _ Locust Hill Cemetery in Knox County ))
1. A Season ( Ecclesiasties )
To everything there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to harvest that which is planted;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh;
a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to get, and a time to lose;
a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sow;
a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate;
a time of war, and a time of peace. -Amen
—————————————————————————————————————
2. Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make me an instrument of Your Peace; Where there is hatred, let me sow Love; Where there is injury, pardon; Where there is doubt, faith; Where there is despair, hope; Where there is darkness, light; Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, grant that I may seek … not so much to be consoled, as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love; for it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying …..that we are reborn to eternal life -Amen
————————————————————————————————————— 3. The Resurrection Prayer “I am the resurrection and the Life.” Saith the Lord: “She that believeth in me, though she were dead, yet shall she live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in me, shall never die.” We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. The LORD giveth, & the LORD taketh away; Ashes to ashes, dust to dust -Amen ————————————————————————————————————— 4. Jehovah/God sayeth: “ I am the Alpha and the Omega I am the beginning and the end…” “As it was in the beginning, So shall it ever be.” ‘World Without End…World Without End” -Amen
—————————————————————————————————————
5. The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy Kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. For ever and ever. -Amen —————————————————————————————————————— A Contemporary Doxology I believe in God, the Supreme Being, Creator of Heaven & Earth and that Jesus Christ, -Born to the Virgin Mary, -Suffered under Pontius Pilate, -Was crucified, died & buried; -Descended into hell; On the third day Christ rose from the dead; Ascended into heaven, & is seated at the right hand of God; Glory be to the Father, the Son, & the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, & ever shall be, World without end. Pray for us sinners, Now & at the hour of our death. -Amen.

  9. from Julie Case, 11 Nov 2021 re: Loretta Catherine McCoy ( 9-20-41 -thru- 7-11-2021 ) “ I met Loretta when she moved next door about 10 years ago. We had become quick friends, she always greeted me with a friendly wave and the kindest smile. Loretta had a gentle spirit —- She always asked how was I doing and about my family. Jim and Loretta have deeply cared for my kids, they would often watch them get on/off the school bus safely When the kids were younger. Many times Loretta brought over a little plate or package of good things to eat. I would open the door and she greeted me with her smile. I miss her smile, I mis not seeing her sit on the back porch with a book. I miss that she won’t be here to celebrate birthdays with our friends and families. Jim and Loretta often celebrated with us for graduations & birthdays, and were like grandparents to them. When I was diagnosed with cancer, Loretta was so encouraging and reminding me things would be Okay. ( And they were okay ) You would never know about the exciting adventures, and positions she had held in her career because she was humble and always asking about others. All that knew Loretta have been blessed by her presence, “Loretta thank you for loving others just like Jesus Christ, and Until we meet again my dear friend — and don’t you worry about Jim, his family and friends will ensure that he continues to get out and golf and live life to the fullest”. “ Julie Case Dear Jim, We are so sorry for your loss of sweet Loretta. Continues prayers for you. Love, The Cases.

  11. ( addressed to Jim McCoy from Joanne Ernst and Jim Collins in Boulder, Co. ) ” We were saddened and surprised to receive news of Loretta’s passing. We read her beautiful obituary at the Dulle-Trimble website with great interest, marveling at the details of her journey and the many years the two of you enjoyed together traveling the world for work and adventure. As we remember Loretta we think of her graciousness and generosity as a hostess and her quiet but thoughtful presence at gatherings large and small. We think of her supporting you during your many ambitious athletic endeavors, from open water swims to trail runs to triathlons. We remember her smiling and steadfast. We will not be able to join you for the memorial service on November 12 but we will plan to pause and think on Loretta that day. Your loss is profound and we grieve for you, Jim.” Joanne Ernst & Jim Collins
