  3. You have my sympathy and prayers in the loss of Mrs. Carter. I feel blessed that I had her as an English teacher in 1972 and 1973. She was an elegant lady and an excellent teacher, and always kind and interested in her students.

  5. I was sorry to hear of Mary Ann’s death. We taught together at Helias High School. Helias High School was my first teaching appointment, and Mrs. Carter was kind to me as a new teacher just graduated from college. Mrs. Carter had been teaching for some time when I entered the profession, and she was a good colleague and mentor. In English Department meetings, she was the “historian” who always remembered strategies and teaching philosophies that had come and gone with the years. Education is a kind of cyclical profession, so it was always good to know how Helias faculty had tried things in the past with varying results. We had many a laugh when we turned to Mary Ann for the historical account of how this or that philosophy had been applied. Committed to Helias High School, Mrs. Carter was teaching there long after I had moved on to other positions and endeavors. My (belated) condolences to her family and friends.
