Mildred Clara Vogel Ovaitt, 99, of Jefferson City, died Tuesday, January 19, 2016, at her home.
She was born on August 23, 1916, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Frederick W. Vogel, Sr., and Clara M. Sailer Vogel.
She was married on June 24, 1944, in Jefferson City to Francis Edward Ovaitt, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 24, 2010.
Mrs. Ovaitt was a 1935 graduate of St. Peter High School.
She was a homemaker and, in earlier years, was employed as a secretary/bookkeeper for United Mutual Insurance Company, Jefferson City, and, together with her husband, was co-owner of Ovaitt Insurance Agency, Jefferson City.
She was a member of St. Joseph Cathedral and a former member of St. Peter Catholic Church, St. Peter Parish Choir, and St. Peter Parish Ladies Sodality. She was one of the founding parents of the Vogelweid Learning Center and coordinated volunteer classroom aides in its early years.
She was a member of the Legion of Mary Auxiliary and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary. She sang at many weddings, sang live on KWOS radio, and at USO events in Jefferson City and Fort Leonard Wood during WWII.
She loved gardening, especially roses, winning blue ribbons for her roses at the Cole County Fair.
She is survived by seven children, Sharon Ovaitt, Jefferson City; Frank (Jackie) Ovaitt, McLean, Virginia; Larry Ovaitt, Midvale, Utah; Paul (Denise) Ovaitt, Augusta, Missouri; Douglas Ovaitt, Fairfield, Iowa; Mark Ovaitt, Chesterfield, Missouri; and Dan (Vonda) Ovaitt, Weston, Missouri; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one sister, Velma Leary, Jefferson City.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Ovaitt; one granddaughter, Heather Joye Ovaitt; three sisters, Cornelia Vogel, Dorothy Vogel, and Sr. Claranne Vogel, SSND; and four brothers, Fred Vogel, Jr., Arthur Vogel, Gerald Vogel, and Jerome Vogel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, January 23, 2016, at St. Joseph Cathedral with the Rev. Christopher M. Aubuchon officiating.
Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4:30-6:00 p.m. Friday, January 22nd, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 4 p.m.
