Porter Leroy Miles, 84, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at his residence.
He was born on January 25, 1928, in Huntington, Penn., the son of the late John Porter and Martha Jane Ross Miles.
He was married on May 28, 1964, in Chicapee, Mass., to Dianne Beverly Peterson who survives at the home.
Mr. Miles retired in 1993 as a Corrections Officer with the Missouri State Prison where he had been employed for eleven years. He later worked for Scholastic, Inc., for three years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict.
He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Other survivors include seven children, Randall (Ellie May) Miles, Hudson, Fla.; Denis Kelly, California, Mo.; Denise Kelly, Alvarado, Texas; Gary (Laurie) Kelly, Latham, Mo.; Ruth Ann (Timothy) DeMarco, Ashland, Mo.; John Porter Miles and his fiance, Angela Coonce, Jefferson City; and Beverly Miles, Jefferson City; one step-daughter, Dianna Farrell, Boston, Mass.; fourteen grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gary Miles, Huntington, Penn.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Porter Leroy Miles, Jr.; two grandsons, Joseph Miles and William Lenox; one sister, Ruth Bailey; and one brother, Tom Miles.
Visitation will be Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church, March 22, 2012, from 8-10 a.m.
A memorial mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 22, 2012, at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Francis W. Doyle officiating, and with Military Rites to follow.
Memorials are suggested to the Porter Leroy Miles Memorial Fund.
